Macaria Valenzuela also known as Nanay Caring<br />
is the Regional Bayani Ka! Awardee for Gender<br />
and Development Category of DSWD <strong>Kalahi</strong> -<strong>CIDSS</strong><br />
<strong>MIMAROPA</strong> last 2016. She is a volunteer of different<br />
orgnizations in Brgy. Poctoy in Torrijos, Marinduque<br />
that promote development projects in their<br />
community.<br />
Nanay Caring is just one of the 496, 867 women<br />
volunteers of DSWD <strong>Kalahi</strong>-<strong>CIDSS</strong> who are working<br />
together for the improvement of the quality of life<br />
in their community. They are considered as ‘New<br />
Heroes’<br />
Women like Nanay Caring are honored every 8th of<br />
March as a celebration of the International Women’s<br />
Day. It was declared by the United Nations in 1977<br />
to remember the movement made by women<br />
to establish rights to equal treatment by society,<br />
whatever gender a person has.<br />
This year, the theme of the celebration is “We Make<br />
Change Work for Women” as a call for the nationwide<br />
implementation of the Magna Carta for Women or<br />
the law that is enacted to end any kind of violence<br />
and discrimination against women.<br />
