Syrian killed,
son abducted
ASyrian businessman
based in Kano State,
Ahmed Aredia, was
reportedly killed by
gunmen and his 14-yearold
son abducted.
The incident occurred
along Abdullahi Wase
Specialist Hospital,
Nassarawa, GRA, Kano,
Tuesday night.
It was gathered that two
of the victim’s children
were with him in the vehicle
when the assailants struck.
A source said four
gunmen took over the
victim’s vehicle, engaged
Areida in an argument
before he was killed.
The other son of the
victim, identified as
Abdullateef, was said to
have escaped.
5 killed in fresh
attack on
Nasarawa
village
FIVE persons have been
confirmed killed in a
fresh attack on Kadarko
village and environs in Obi
Local Government,
Tuesday night, by the
Nasarawa State Police
Command.
Mr. Kennedy Idirisu, the
command’s spokesman,
who disclosed this
yesterday in Lafia, said the
attackers invaded the
village at night and shot
everyone on sight.
A resident of Kadarko
village, who spoke on the
Tuesday attack, said the
trouble started when a 17-
year-old boy had his arm
chopped off by unknown
persons suspected to be
herdsmen.
The source, who craved
anonymity, said the
attackers later stormed the
village at night, shooting at
anyone in sight.
“Even the Internally
Displaced Persons (IDPs)
camp was not spared,”

THE Lagos State Police
Command has uncovered an
illegal distillery, where fake malt
drinks, stout and ethanol are
produced, at Igba Afa community
in Igbogbo Bayeku area of
Ikorodu.
Five persons were arrested,
while drums of finished malt and
stout drinks waiting to be
transferred to different parts of the
country were recovered.
The illegal brewery is situated
on an acre of land. To hide their
activities, the perpetrators built a
residential apartment in front of
the factory.
The factory
The brewery is made up of five
sections for the production
processes. There were over 200
drums of 1,000 litre capacity
positioned at each of the sections,
besides others of 500, 200 and
100 litres capacity.
There were also two reservoirs,
where the finished products were
kept, pending when they will be
loaded into trucks which take
them to different parts of the
country.
Dead rats and reptiles were
floating on the finished products,
particularly inside the reservoirs.

community policing
Commissioner of Police, Lagos
State Command, Imohimi Edgal,
who led journalists round the
illegal brewery, attributed the
recovery to the dividend of the
community policing initiative of
the command.

53, who allegedly killed his wife
Zainab, and his three-year-old
daughter, Petra, in Ikoyi Prisons.
Nielsen appeared before the
court on a two-count charge
bordering on murder. The
offences are contrary to and
punishable under Section 223 of
most people who drink these

unhygienic environment

operators are not qualified to

Herbalist caught with wife's corpse in Ilorin

ILORIN—POLICEMEN on
stop-and-search operations at
Osere Junction around Eid Road
in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, got
more than they bargained for as
a corpse was discovered in one
of the cars flagged down.
A herbal mixture seller,
identified as Raji Mufutau, kept
the corpse of his late wife in the
vehicle he used in hawking his
products.
It was gathered that the foul
odour from the chemical the man
had been using to preserve
the remains of his wife
probably made the Police to
search the vehicle, when he
was stopped.
A Police source said: “The
suspect was said to have been
consistently using chemicals
to spray the corpse in the
vehicle to prevent it from
decomposing, while he went
about hawking his herbal
mixture drugs.
“The heavy odour of the
chemical, which oozed out
from the vehicle when it was
stopped for search by the Police
prompted the Police to peep into
the vehicle, where they discovered
the corpse.”
The source added that when he
was asked about the source of the
corpse, the suspect said it was
that of his wife and that he didn’t
want to bury her because he was
afraid of what her relations would
say.
“He was promptly taken to the
Police station for further
interrogation, while the corpse
was taken to the University of
Ilorin Teaching Hospital
mortuary,” the source added.

told the court that the defendant
committed the offences on April 5
