Signing Day
day. … It’s important that
we battled on. It showed
some resilience.”
That determination to
stand tough against adversity
is what the coach
is looking for his young
team. New Trier had a
3-5 record following the
win against its conference
opponent and saw some
positives even though his
team let go of an 8-0 lead.
The pitching is improving
and hitting its spots while
he also thinks the hitting is
blossoming.
No matter how it looked,
it was important to get that
first conference in.
“It was important,”
Cadwell said. “This was
our first conference game,
it was a win, so it was a
good start. We should’ve
dominated it a little more
than we did, but it was
good for this group because
they need the confidence.
They’re still growing
and learning.”
For GBS, it’s learning
how to fight back for such
a young team. The team
stands at 0-6 after its loss
to New Trier, but Boehmer
remains encouraged by
the fight she sees from her
players. The Titans are
learning how to communicate
at the varsity level and
she admitted they might be
timid and scared at times
when faced with adversity.
But with efforts like the
one against New Trier, she
won’t be surprised to see
her team quickly make improvements
as the season
progresses.
“We’re a young team,”
Boehmer said. “We have
four freshmen starting on
our team, so it’s going to
be a learning process. …
It’s time to step up to a
new level.”
