Year 5
Childhood
As luck would have it, Forest School day was also May Day!
Dr Collins introduced Year 5 to
some traditional May Day
activities.
We sang The May song.
The boys looked more
enthusiastic when dancing was
mentioned!
We danced to The May Song, sung by Magpie Lane.
Traditionally children would make funny faces looking through a
Heavy Horse collar, but we improvised.
Last week we made a friendship bracelet, this week we
made a different design and gave it to a friend.
The children worked with their
neighbour at the fire circle.
This meant that they chatted
to people they wouldn’t
normally spend time with.
Imogen was very patient and
particularly good at explaining
how to braid.
They discovered that they
could learn new skills.
Can you braid without even looking at what you are doing?
Dr Collins demonstrated how you cook popcorn over an open
fire. For a while nothing happens and then, they pop!
We played the Viking game and a
Native American Indian game.
These were all designed to teach
the children not to give up and
how to move better.
The children ran and shouted. They stopped running when they
ran out of breath.
Different children managed their breathing better than others.
Even so, everyone improved with practise.
