The dinosaurs are coming!
It is Dino Week at the National Forest Adventure Farm 26 May to
3 June 2018. This May half term holiday you can meet the Adventure
Farm’s T-Rex and Velociraptor. They will be stalking the Farm waiting
to meet you for a photo. There will also be roar-some interactive Dino
Shows where you can learn to tame these terrible beasts. Little
ones can also meet our baby Velociraptor in his nest. Don’t
forget you can also meet and feed the farm
animals and play on the huge indoor and
outdoor play areas.

Foster Care Fortnight
The Fostering Network's annual campaign to raise
the profile of fostering and to show how foster care
transforms lives takes place from 14 to 27 May this
year. If you have a spare room and may be interested
in fostering you can find out more at a series of events
during Fostering Fortnight organised by Derbyshire
County Council. See details of dates and locations on
page 15.
Save the Date
The paddling pool at Markeaton Park will be open
from Saturday 26 May 2018. Derby City Council
have explained that they would love to open it
earlier, however, it is over 50 years old and could be
damaged by frost if opened sooner.

Autism Spectrum:
Practical training on responding to the spectrum of behaviours
The vast majority of people have heard of autism, however only a minority of
people understand it well enough to recognise and respond to it appropriately.
One of the reasons that autism is sometimes misunderstood is that the
overall expression of the characteristics of autism, in all its forms, can differ
considerably. Children diagnosed with autism, even if they are the same age,
may look very different from each other in the manifestation of behaviours.
The Autism Spectrum: Directions for Parents and Carers short
online course is aimed at individuals with a close relationship to those who
encounter different manifestations of autism, and offers a practical guide to
recognising, identifying and responding to this spectrum of behaviours.
Real life case studies, filmed and written, allow course participants to
observe and learn to interpret behaviour as well as formulate suggestions for
interventions with the ultimate goal of reducing challenges through lessening
disruptive behaviour and nurturing a degree of independence.
This course has been designed in conjunction with our alternative Autism
Spectrum: Directions for Education Professionals course. Both of
the courses cover the same concepts and principles surrounding the autism
spectrum, but are designed to suit the needs of the different audiences.
