Descriptive A descriptive essay is a writing which explains in a detailed way an event, person or something named main topic, so that the reader will be able to comprehend the text by using the imagination. According to Hamilton (2011), “a descriptive essay paints a portrait in words. Its purpose is to bring to life, on the page, an event, experience, person, place, or process. Descriptive essays go by a variety of different names: expository (which “exposes” a topic through description), narration (which tells a brief anecdote or story), description (which evokes a mood through a description of a place), process analysis (which tells how to do something, step by step)” (p.78).
