Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery Markets Research Report- Forecast to 2022
1 Summary
The report has been analyzed based on the injection type, applications, well types and regions. Only
bacteria’s are used for MEOR process because of their ability to survive extreme conditions present in the
reservoir. The small size of the bacteria makes it easy for them to penetrate the reservoirs porous medium.
This enables the bacteria to physically displace oil by growing between oil and selective partial degradation
of whole crude oil. They also reduce the interfacial tension between oil and enable to alter wettability to
reduce oil viscosity.
Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery Markets Research Report- Forecast to 2022
2 Market Overview: -
Lower crude oil prices in recent years and the ever increasing global need for fuel is driving the market for
MEOR process. The North America and Europe region is expected to drive the MEOR market where
researchers have identified that the process is applicable to more than 50% of oil wells. Further, Middle
East and Africa region is expected to drive the market with increasing oil and gas recovery process from
the existing old production wells. In the Asia region, the increased energy consumption in China and India
are driving the market for MEOR process. These countries are the largest net importers of oil and gas for
their internal energy use which drives the need for increased fuel use. The market is expected to grow at a
rate of CAGR 20% during the forecast period of 2014 to 2022.
Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery Markets Research Report- Forecast to 2022
Regional Analysis: -
The increasing global demand for energy and fuel have resulted in increased E&P investment in oil and
gas exploration around the world. However, there are many aging oil and gas infrastructure projects from
which there is a possibility to extract more oil. Conventional methods used for extraction of oil have very
serious environmental concerns and also they are expensive. The other cost effective way of recovering
residual oil from aging oil and gas reservoirs is the Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery technique. It is an
enhanced recovery process in which microorganisms are used in a reservoir to improve oil recovery.
