Dibeke
To start, one player from your team kicks a ball
into the field. Each team has 12 players.
The other side grabs the ball and throws it at the
players in your team. If it hits someone, then that
player is out.
When you are all out, then the other team kicks
the ball and your team chases them and throws
the ball at them.
in soft sand or draw a circle on the floor.
You put your stones in the hole, then throw a big
stone up in the air. You pull out all your stones
from the hole and catch the big stone before it
falls.
You keep one stone and put the rest back in the
hole, then do the same again.
If you drop the big stone then the other player
starts his or her turn.
Two players, each have 12 small stones, one has
dark stones and the other one has light stones.
Play on a board like in the picture. You can draw
your own board. Take turns to put your stones on
the dots where lines meet.
When all the stones are on the board, you move
your stones. You can only move one space if it is
empty. You can not jump over other stones.
Try to get 3 stones in a row, then take one of the
other player’s stones.
When one player has only 2 stones left, he or she
loses.
Nchuva
Two or more people can play. You get 32 stones
(they are called your “cows”) to play with. Put 2
cows in each hole of the 2 rows on your side.
Look at the picture.
The player who starts, takes 2 cows out of a hole
and puts them one - one in the holes to the left.
Then take all the cows of the next left hand hole
and put them one - one into the holes to the left
of that hole.
You do this until you have a hole with only 1 cow
in it. Then you take the other player’s cows in that
column.
If you eat all the other cows, you win.
About SASLM
The SASLM (South African Sports Legacy Museum) was conceived by an
energetic youth, born in the deeply rural village of Tshifudi in Limpopo Province.
In these dusty streets he witnessed how young people used sport, particularly
soccer, as a part time engagement to reinforce and shape their characters. This
prepared them to engage in the different spheres of a competitive world.
The SASLM’s objectives are to preserve, commemorate and showcase the
history of all sporting disciplines in South African, created by major national and
international sportng events such as the Comrades Marathon and recent world
cups hosted by South Africa for future genarations.
One of the SASLM’s key focus areas is to promote and create awareness of
indigenous games and expose it as part of the Indigenous Knowledge system in
schools aquire skills and enhance knowledge in the local context.
Our dream is for our children to
grow up strong and healthy,
in body and mind.
The traditional games we played
in the past is a vital ingredient for
building agile minds and bodies.
