46 MACHINERY UPDATE MAy/june 2018 www.machineryupdate.co.uk Installation Review News Viscous pumping units are made easier to use The Kecol articulated priming system that is designed to empty 4 x drums mounted on a pallet without removing the drums from the pallet was demonstrated at Anuga in Germany. The company has added a new feature to the unit to make it easier to use and this latest design incorporates a pendant arm onto which there is a control box to operate the unit. This enables the operator to move the pump and operate the unit at the same time. Kecol articulated Powerprime is a floor mounted, single post pneumatic unit and is used to raise and lower a Kecol pump and follower plate. The unit applies pressure to the follower plate to give a positive prime to the pump, allowing viscous products to be pumped cold. The wiper ring wipes the inner walls of the drum to remove the maximum amount Schubert presented a TLM system for packaging yogurt cups in flow packs at Anuga. To achieve this, the system was equipped with the Flowmodul flow wrapping component, which is seamlessly integrated into the machine. The company has experience in packing dairy products including the Alois Müller dairy plant which uses the TLM technology for the secondary packaging of its products, such as the The articulated Powerprime is a floor mounted, single post pneumatic unit that makes life safer for the operators of product from the drum, while the articulated arm enables the pump to transfer products from pallet mounted drums without removing the drums from the pallet. This, says Kecol, avoids any manual handling issues for the operatives. The articulated Powerprime is available in painted construction or stainless steel construction and is designed to transfer products cleanly, quietly and efficiently. It can be modified to suit various vessels or containers. As a leading UK manufacturer of viscous pumping systems, Kecol also introduced two batching systems at the German show. These can be pre-programmed to dispense a required amount of product and automatically stop the pump when the target weight is reached. Kecol says its standard and bespoke systems are widely used in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, as well as for general industrial applications. Materials such as tomato paste, mascara, lip gloss, peanut butter, almond paste, fruit puree, ointment, cream, grease and adhesives are typical applications. The machine presented at the show was packing the ‘Corner Yogurt – mini’ in multi packs that are marketed to children by Müller. DUAL-CHAMBER CUPS These dual-chamber cups are brought together in pairs in a flow pack. The machine processes the products at an optimum speed of 60 cycles per minute. This ensures that the yogurt does not adhere to the foil lid – which would be the case with higher cycle rates. A 3D scanner installed on the line ensures that yogurt cups with damaged or missing lids are not picked up. Furthermore, the 3D scanner ensures the correct orientation of the yogurt cups in each of the flow packs. Equipped with five pick- &-place-robots, the machine achieves an output of 150 flow packs per minute. These lightweight, corrosion-resistant gear units, smooth surface motors, frequency inverters and motor starters in wash-down optimised die cast aluminium housings are robust and durable thanks to a special surface treatment called Nord nsd tupH surface protection. For use in demanding environments, the company offers this anti-corrosion treatment for aluminium drive units as an alternative to painted case iron or stainless steel versions. With this process, the material is hardened below the surface and this surface treatment creates a protective layer which is permanently bonded to the substrate material. It is based on an electrolytic process and gives aluminium corrosion resistance properties which are similar to those of stainless steel. The scratchresistant surface is more than seven times harder than untreated aluminium alloy which means the drives can easily withstand high pressure steam washing or contact with aggressive media. Among other applications, Nord nsd tupH modules are used in the many conveyor systems which are used in oyster farming and, in practice, they often outlive the ten year life cycle of the conveyor belts which they drive, as they can withstand the salty environment easily.
