JAMES BARTLETT PLAYS WITH
LONDON MOZART PLAYERS
In 2014, seventeen-year-old pianist
Martin James Bartlett took the classical
world by storm when he won the
prestigious BBC Young Musician of the
Year Award with his acclaimed
performance of Rachmaninov’s
Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.
Now a fully-fledged concert pianist,
Martin is acclaimed as one of the
leading musical talents of his generation
and, on Thursday 14 June at 19.30,
Martin will join the London Mozart
Players – the UK’s longest-established
chamber orchestra – as the soloist for a
sublime evening of Mozart at St John’s
Smith Square, introduced by Classic
FM’s John Suchet.
The concert programme of Mozart
treasures includes the dark and
passionate Piano Concerto No. 24 K491.
Scored for more instruments than any of
his previous piano concerti, this minorkey
masterpiece has been acclaimed as
Mozart’s greatest concerto by
musicologists of all generations.
Beethoven reportedly remarked to a
colleague that ‘we shall never be able to
do anything like that’. Martin plays with
a wisdom and elegance far beyond his
years and this performance will display
his virtuosity and fearless technique. It’s
simply not to be missed. In addition, the
London Mozart Players will perform the
Overture to Mozart’s much-loved opera
Le nozze di Figaro, and his Symphony
No. 40 in G minor K550.
Hosted by Classic FM’s John Suchet,
this concert follows in the London
Mozart Players’ almost seventy-year
tradition of promoting young musicians.
Nicola Benedetti, Jacqueline du Pré and
Jan Pascal Tortelier are just three of
many young musical virtuosi
championed early in their careers by the
orchestra. This is a wonderful

On Your Feet! is the inspiring true
love story of Emilio and Gloria and
charts their journey from its origins in
Cuba, onto the streets of Miami and
finally to international superstardom and
features iconic pops songs of the era,
including ‘Rhythm is Gonna Get You’,
‘Conga’, ‘Get On Your Feet’, ‘Don’t Want
To Lose You Now’ and ‘1-2-3’.
Gloria Estefan has sold over 100
million records worldwide and is the
most successful Latin crossover
performer in the history of pop music. In
addition to her 38 number 1 hits across
the Billboard charts, Gloria recorded the
Oscar-nominated song ‘Music of My
Heart’ and has received numerous
honours and awards over the course of
her illustrious career. Emilio Estefan is a
founding member of the pioneering
Miami Sound Machine, who created a
brand new Latin crossover sound –
fusing infectious Cuban rhythms with
American pop and disco. Combined,
they have won a staggering 26 Grammy
awards.
