Ahead of May 29, Nigerians assess
President Buhari’s three years in office
There has been no significant
development —Damilola
Ogunsanya, Physiologist
Buhari's government for the past three years has
been really bad, no significant development had been
made. The administration is fraught with
unfulfilled promises. He promised to fight
corruption but corruption has been on the increase.
He is running the government like there is no
direction. There's shedding of innocent blood
everywhere and the rate of unemployment has
gotten worse.
Buhari himself has even made everything worse
in the sense that he doesn't know the right words to
use at the right time.
Nothing positive and
meaningful has been
achieved so far
—David Oloke, Civil Servant
It been three turbulent years for Nigeria,
looking at the economy, health, education,
security, infrastructure, human
development and the fight against
Corruption. I would say nothing positive
and meaningful has been achieved so far.
The promises made
during electioneering
campaigns have
not been met
—Adamu Musa, textile
dealer
“For me, President
Muhammadu Buhari has not
lived to the expectations of Nigerians.
Let’s keep sentiments
aside. The promises made
during electioneering campaigns
have not been met. I
am from Adamawa State, one
of the strongholds of Boko
Haram and where insurgency
still rules. So, when they claim
they have defeated insurgency,
we tell them that killings are
still very much with us and we
are worried”
He hasn’t lived up to
expectations — Adewale
Ojoye, Public servant
In my assessment, Buhari has not
really lived up to the expectations of
some of us. In the area of power
supply, we still contend with
incessant outages in my vast
neighborhood. Security wise, there
is room for improvement, also the
rampaging killers need to be put in
check. Unemployment is still a
serious issue of concern as well.
The yearnings of the
people have not been met
—Abdullahi, Yunusa, civil servant
“Nigeria under Buhari is a mix bag of good and
bad moments. The government has done well in
taming insurgency in the North-East but need to
rise up to the challenge of the senseless killings
going on. Internationally, the country now has a
better image. In all these, the yearnings of the
people have not been met,”
He should take us back
to how he met us
— Nnaemeka Onwudiwe,
Businessman
Let him give us the bill of 'Not Too
Young to Run for election' and send
us back to where he met us
economically, educationally, healthwise,
security-wise and otherwise.
The country is now in a worse
situation than it was before he
assumed power.
His administration is a
big calamity — Tolulope
Ojemuyiwa, Journalist
PMB has performed woefully in all major
areas, especially in the area of corruption.
In fact, corruption thrives under PMB. We
never knew he could be turned to a 'Toothless
Bulldog' going by his past profile. That's
why I would like to share the opinion of
some members of the society who gave the
full meaning of APC as 'All Promises
Cancelled'. . Don't forget, fraudulent
charges/deductions by banks are still issues
yet to be tackled. I need to emphasize that I
never supported PDP either.
He has been a complete
failure —Emele Chijindu
Emmanuel, Teacher
Saying that PMB has not achieved anything
in his three years in office will tantamount to
being untruthful. He deserves some credits in
revamping the agricultural sector, to an extent
anyway. However, using Buhari's campaign
promises to judge him, I would say he has failed.
The economy is definitely worse than he met it.
A lot of people have lost their jobs and a good
number of Nigerians can't feed well. I know
APC keeps on telling us they are not to be
blamed for the bad economy, but Nigerians
chose them over PDP because they promised to
do better. Buhari promised to make the country
more secure and conquer Boko Haram within
weeks. Well, it's common knowledge that he is
still battling with Boko Haram and that Nigeria
is worse off security wise.
President Buhari has done
more harm than good - Oves
Omoeni Ovesuo, Pharmacist
Buhari's three years in office has
done Nigeria more harm than good
in every ramification. He has created
more division and segregation in
Nigeria than it has ever been and
enthroned nepotism in place of
meritocracy. He brought more tears
and pains in the faces and hearts of
many Nigerians respectively than
they have ever had. It has been three
years of retrogression, we have made
absolutely no positive progress in any
way.
Nigeria is on a steady path of
growth - Crescent Adebayo,
Management Consultant
Under his watch, Nigeria is on a steady
path of growth. Obviously, things are
tough expectedly, there's always a price
for greatness and Nigerians must be
willing to pay this. Our present sorry
state is as a result of terrible leadership
of the past and Nigerians' attitudes for
"me, myself and I." Economy is being
revamped, roads long abandoned are
being built, rail lines are under
construction in the length and breadth
of the country. Corrupt politicians are
having their days in court, while billions
of naira are being recovered. With
Buhari, Nigeria will be great and our
children will forever appreciate the
pains and sacrifices we are passing
through. No pain, no gain.
