The word “Humanity” is called “humanitas” in Latin, which means
“human nature, and kindness”. Humanity is the word for the
qualities that make us human, for instance the ability to love and
have compassion, be creative, and not to be a robot or alien.
Humanitarian activities should never be performed so as to
achieve fame or to gain a status symbol.
Lifting the heavy bag of an old woman is humanity;
Helping a disabled to cross the road is humanity;
Helping your mom in doing work is humanity;
in fact, helping anyone who is in need is humanity!
As soon as we understand the importance of humanity in day-today
life, the purpose for which we are on Earth is automatically
fulfilled! “And that service to humanity is the best work of life”
Change begins with me. If you cannot lead yourself, how will you make a
mastery with practice, skills, and commitment. In JCI Kuala Lumpur, we
believe that we learn more when we learn together.
About JCI
Junior Chamber International (JCI) is a global membership-based nonprofit
organization of young active citizens ages 18 to 40 who are
dedicated to creating positive change in their communities. Through
projects in more than 5,000 communities across more than 100
countries, members seek targeted solutions to local problems, creating
a global impact.
The JCI movement started on October 13, 1915 by one active citizen,
Henry Giessenbier, who had a passion for positive change. Since then,
millions of other young active citizens have united together to create
sustainable impact in their community.
JCI Headquarters is located in St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A., where the
first local organization was founded. The headquarters operation is led
by JCI Secretary General Arrey Obenson. Each year, members from all
over the globe come together at the JCI World Congress. At this event,
JCI’s critical mass of young people united to share experiences,
understand the interconnectedness of our world and facilitate
international cooperation.
J C I S T R U C T U R E &
JCI also hosts four regional conferences each year: Africa and the
Middle East, Asia and the Pacific, the Americas and Europe. At these
conferences, JCI conducts its affairs, hosts training, and gives members
the opportunities to address global issues and show their commitment to
become socially responsible leaders.
JCI Vision, JCI Mission, and JCI Creed were
recited in unison during 2018 JCI Kuala
Lumpur Installation & Awards Banquet.
JCI Kuala Lumpur has co-organized JCI Official Trainings (JCI Achieve and JCI Admin) with JCI Achiever on 20th
January 2018 (Saturday), from 9am to 4pm, at JCI Malaysia Secretariat. The head trainer was JCI Senator Viktor
Omarsson, who was JCI Iceland Past National President, JCI Past Vice President (Europe), and 2017 JCI
Strategic Planning Committee. The assistant trainers were Jerry Neogh (JCI KL), Thomas Chin (JCI KL), and CD
Lee (JCI Lead Tropicana).
On 28th January 2018, JCI Kuala Lumpur has also organized another training called “Goal Setting & Personal
Coaching”. The trainers were JCI Senator Viktor Omarsson and JCI Senator Elizes Low. JCI Senator Elizes Low
was 2015 JCI Iceland Deputy National President, 2016 JCI Iceland National President, and 2017 Chairman of JCI
Iceland Strategic Planning Committee. Through the four hours training, the trainers JCI Senator Viktor and JCI
Senator Elizes have been the personal coach to the participants. The purpose of personal coaching is to maximize
the full potential of a person, not only in developing his or her job, but also his or her career and personal
performance. With the personal coaching, the participants were able to identify and focus on what is important,
which accelerates their success.
" Excellence is an art
won by training and
habituation. We do not
act rightly because we
have virtue or
excellence, but we
rather have those
because we have
acted rightly. We are
what we repeatedly do.
Excellence, then, is not
an act but a habit "
As the Capital City Chapter, it gives great pleasure for JCI KL to serve 7 overseas Sister Chapters. JCI KL and the
international division is filled with stories, nostalgias and forged friendships from the long distance travels. It is a
great honour to share a small snippet from the recent encounter.
The 2018 JCI Kuala Lumpur Sisterhood Summit was successfully organized during JCI KL’s 64th Installation and
Awards Banquet. It was a 6 days event, spreading before and after JCI KL installation. Attended by 130
participants over the week, the event was marked satisfactory to JCI KL international delegates and local JCI
Malaysia members who participated. The event witnessed and hosted the main guests from 6 overseas sister
chapters: JCI Nishinomiya Japan (signed in 1970), JCI City Singapore (signed in 1970), JCI Manila Philippines
(signed in 1971), JCI Taichung Taiwan (signed in 1972), JCI Kowloon Hong Kong (signed in 1979), and JCI
Cheonan Korea (signed in 1990).
The agenda began with Welcome Dinner as it was customary to previous years when welcoming JCI KL overseas
delegates. This year, JCI KL did something different by conducting President Dialogue session to allow 6
countries’ presidents to exchange and discuss different views, experiences and leadership knowledge to enhance
and keep each other updated. While presidents have their dialogue, JCI Kuala Lumpur members were high in
engagement with JCI KL overseas delegates. While some friendships were maintained, some were newly born out
of this event. The creed of brotherhood that transcends the sovereignty of nations truly blossomed during the
welcome dinner. To sign off the night on a high note, JCI KL held a 1st ever event called MATT (Meet At The Top)
to not just for the sake of 2nd round, but also an opportunity for other local chapter members and non-JCI
members to network and explore the new possibilities. The 3 days that followed were filled with unforgettable
memories as JCI KL continued to convoy 6 countries together on food hunt, massage reflexology, sightseeing,
shopping spree and not to forget taking lots of pictures together. The journey covered almost everything and
anything that Klang Valley had to offer.
