The People Make the Bronx: Heart of the Bronx

Teen Summer explores the stories behind community-based organizations and their impactful work. This year, teens spent three weeks investigating Bronx arts organizations. They met with dedicated artists, activists and administrators to learn how they contribute to the richness of arts and culture in our community. After conducting a series of interviews, teens created a video and poster publication to share their findings with the wider public.

TEEN SUMMER PROGRAM 2017<br />

This summer <strong>the</strong> <strong>Bronx</strong> Museum Teen Summer Program visited arts organizations in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Bronx</strong>. We had <strong>the</strong><br />

opportunity to meet with <strong>the</strong>ir dedicated staff about <strong>the</strong> work <strong>the</strong>y do and discuss <strong>the</strong>ir perspectives on <strong>the</strong> arts in<br />

<strong>the</strong> borough. Local arts organizations act as centers for people to come toge<strong>the</strong>r and enrichen <strong>the</strong> arts and culture<br />

in our community.<br />

Created in 2012, <strong>the</strong> Teen Summer Program researches community-based organizations and <strong>the</strong>ir impactful work.<br />

Over <strong>the</strong> course <strong>of</strong> three weeks, teens engage with activists, administrators, and artists and learn how grassroots<br />

organizations serve as vital local resources. Working collaboratively with museum educators, participants create<br />

videos and publications to <strong>of</strong>fer information about <strong>the</strong> services available in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Bronx</strong> and share <strong>the</strong>ir findings with a<br />

wider public.<br />
