UAE, Canada in talks to increase direct flights<br />
OTTAWA: The United Arab Emirates<br />
and Canada recently held talks on<br />
the possibility of increasing the<br />
number of direct flights between<br />
them to further strengthen their<br />
political, economic and trade<br />
relations.<br />
The Canadian government says the<br />
UAE is Canada's largest export<br />
market in the Middle East and North<br />
Africa and its 16th largest export<br />
market globally. Canadian exports<br />
to the UAE reached a record US$1.79<br />
billion in 2016.<br />
Foreign Direct Investment is also a<br />
common interest between the<br />
countries with UAE investors<br />
pouring in US$9.68 billion to<br />
C a n a d a i n 2 0 1 5 . A b o u t 1 5 0<br />
Canadian companies operate in the<br />
UAE and about 40,000 Canadians<br />
live and work in the UAE.<br />
UAE Minister of Economy Sultan bin<br />
Saeed Al Mansouri led the meeting<br />
in Canada. He met with Canadian<br />
Minister of Transport Marc Garneau<br />
and discussed ways to develop joint<br />
cooperation in the air transport<br />
field, the Emirates State News<br />
Agency WAM reported.<br />
During the meeting, held at the<br />
Canadian ministry headquarters, Al<br />
Mansouri said the UAE and Canada<br />
enjoy growing bilateral relations,<br />
especially in the economic and<br />
trade sectors.<br />
He also pointed out that the two<br />
countries have completed a number<br />
of qualitative steps during the last<br />
phase to create the necessar y<br />
legislative structure for the growth<br />
of cooperation between the private<br />
sectors and the opening of markets<br />
to businessmen from both sides<br />
through signing of a number of<br />
a g r e e m e n t s a s w e l l a s t h e<br />
establishment of the Joint Economic<br />
Committee and the formation of the<br />
UAE-Canada Business Council.<br />
Al Mansouri added there is a need to<br />
develop aspects of cooperation in<br />
the field of aviation and air services,<br />
to keep abreast of the current<br />
development in bilateral relations<br />
between the two<br />

or the USA now flying all over the<br />
world,” said Capt. Sakeer Sheik,<br />
founder and chairman of Titan<br />
Aviation Group.<br />
With offices in San Marino, Italy,<br />
Germany, France, the UK, Florida,<br />
New Jersey and New York, Titan now<br />
has 25 aircraft in its globally managed<br />
fleet, including Lineage 1000,<br />
Bombardier Global 6000, Legacy 650<br />
and Gulfstream, with several available<br />
for charter.<br />
“Our target is to have 20 jets under<br />
management in Europe within two<br />
years and 50 in the USA within the<br />
same timescale of 2020,” explained<br />
Sheik. “The new AOCs and offices<br />
leave us well placed to reach these<br />
aims. We are now servicing the main<br />
European and American business and<br />
leisure destinations preferred by our<br />
clients in the Middle East and India,<br />
while providing seamless access to<br />
and from the USA and Europe.”<br />
Titan's international growth march<br />
also includes expanding its influence<br />
into the medevac arena, particularly<br />
in the UAE where a gap in the market<br />
has arisen with the withdrawal of Abu<br />
Dhabi's Royal Jet from the sector.
