“I smell bac<strong>on</strong>!” Ella sat up in bed and<br />
rubbed her still-sleepy eyes. “And is that<br />
maple syrup, too?” She hopped out of bed<br />
and hurried downstairs toward <strong>the</strong> tantalizing<br />
aromas coming from <strong>the</strong> kitchen.<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> now-familiar breakfast scene made her<br />
smile. Ella and her sisters, Avery and Sadie,<br />
plus her bro<strong>the</strong>r, Evan, had been staying<br />
with <strong>the</strong>ir grandparents for a week of <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
summer vacati<strong>on</strong>.<br />
Mimi and Papa stood at <strong>the</strong> stove. Mimi,<br />
clad in her bright red jogging outfit, busily<br />
flipped her special animal-shaped pancakes.<br />
Papa wore his chef’s hat and a white apr<strong>on</strong><br />
