IMPACT
UPPC Annual Meeting 2018
Meet Katie Dittler
Katie started coming to UPPC in October 2017. It was at the Happily Ever After learning groups she was able
to connect with others in the church. Upon learning that Katie had been recently divorced, a woman in her
discussion group encouraged Katie to attend Divorce Recovery as part of her healing process. It was through
this workshop Katie found healing and friends who understood the challenges she had been through. Although
the workshop has ended, Katie finds those friendships remain part of her support network - friendships she
anticipates lasting a lifetime.
As a member of the Coast Guard Katie often travels, but always anticipates returning to UPPC where she is
surrounded by people who love Jesus as much as she does; people who help her learn more about God and
encourage her to focus on her faith. In UPPC Katie has found a church community and home.

CLOSING PRAYER
You should be so proud. This last year has been
a banner year for our church and I pray you feel
joy as you read this report. Our community is
focused and healthy. As a result, our IMPACT is
growing exponentially. I am proud of the work of
our leadership to get us to this point, but in all
honesty, the credit goes to you as the members
of UPPC. It takes every one of us to be the
church and you’ve responded to God’s call to our
body with faith and commitment. You are the
reason UPPC is in this season of vitality.
If you’ve known me for long you’ve heard me share a core conviction I
have for leading our church. It’s a conviction for every church that flows
from Jesus’ mandate to, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of
people.” The conviction is this:
The church must be outwardly focused to be inwardly strong.
“Follow Me” is a phrase Jesus uses twelve times in the gospels.
Everything in the church comes down to an imperative to follow Jesus
on his mission. As a result, strong community will be formed.
The first disciples dropped everything, lived in community and learned
how to live on mission for God - a community and mission that would
be essential to establish and expand the church of Christ. The early
church existed with a dynamic tension: it was both growing and unifying.
The Bible tells us that first century believers “shared everything in
common” and that “the church was being added to day by day.” We
want our church to live in this same dynamic. The fact is, healthy
community flows out of a unified cause - not the other way around.
As we follow Jesus and are faithful to his mission, we are seeing great
impact. Thank you for your partnership in the gospel. Thank you for the
investment you’ve made in our community. Many have sacrificed time
and resources to fuel the impact of our church ministries and as a result
we are seeing God work in remarkable ways. Let us keep our focus on
those outside our walls, that all may know the love of Jesus Christ!
I love being your Pastor!
Rev. Aaron Stewart
The church is people; the church is a community of believers. That’s the church.
But people want to attend the church, to come on Sundays.
I say, “Yeah, you’re experiencing church, but you’re not really having the same level
of participation as you would have if you would get more involved.
Be a part of that community of faith, that community of believers.”
Seems to me that’s the church.
- Chris Keay, Human Resources Elder

Kick-Off Sunday BBQ
In September 2017 we celebrated
the start of a new ministry year
and the completion of Opening
Doors Phase 1 with an all-church
BBQ! Fun was had by all!
New Service Elements
As part of our Sanctuary update,
in June 2018 we dedicated a new
communion table, baptismal font,
and pulpit. These pieces represent
life together as a church family.
Sunset Christian Preschool
Nearly 200 kids attend SCP every
year. This year we have over 40
new families attending - what an
opportunity be the love of Jesus to
our local community!
Women’s ESL Classes
In 2018 we expanded our refugee ministry to include
a class to help women learn English and tools for
acclimating to America.
Maundy Thursday
We contemplated Jesus’ sacrifice as a family through
dinner and a look at what Holy Week might have felt like
from the perspective of the apostles.
Day Camp
Every summer over 100 volunteers
host more than 300 kids from
our community for a week of fun,
games and learning about Jesus.
Intergenerational Mission
Our second annual trip again went
to Mexico where they built a home
for a single mom and her three
children.
Tolstov Family
This spring, we welcomed the
Tolstovs from Kazakhstan, our 2nd
refugee family. We are delighted
they are part of our church family!
WE’RE IN THIS MESSY LIFE TOGETHER.
LOVING EACH OTHER. LOVING THOSE IN THE WORLD AROUND US.
CELEBRATING THE GOOD TIMES. WALKING TOGETHER THROUGH THE HARD TIMES.

IMPACT
THROUGH GENEROSITY
THE MANY MINISTRIES OF UPPC ARE FINANCIALLY SUPPORTED IN TWO DIFFERENT WAYS:
1. Ministries which are primarily supported by our giving (contributions) to the Ministry Fund, and
2. Ministries which are primarily self-supported.
Combined, over $3.2 million dollars is received and spent annually in our ministries – within the church, locally,
nationally and internationally.
UNDERSTANDING MINISTRY FUND BUDGET INCOME
• Contributions are the main source of Ministry Fund income.
• For the 2017-18 fiscal year contributions are up 5.6% over the previous year. (This is significant given that we
are also giving in support of the Opening Doors campaign.)
• For the 2018-19 Fiscal Year the Finance Team is projecting a conservative 3% increase in giving. If we can
continue our giving at the 5%-6% level it will mean more funding for existing and new ministries.
BASED UPON THE FINANCE TEAM’S RECOMMENDATION, SESSION HAS APPROVED
SELF-SUPPORTING MINISTRIES
These vital UPPC ministries are supported by
means other than contributions for most of
their direct expenses. However, please note
that every one of these ministries is led by or
receives significant involvement from a UPPC
staff person. Additionally, in most cases these
ministries use our facilities. These critical staff
and facilities resources are reliant upon giving
to the Ministry Fund.
Together we are able to be and
share the love of Jesus.
