Financial Assistance for
Children:
Since its inception in 2013,
the Center for Families & Children has experienced tremendous
growth every year. Through the Center, JFS has been able to reach
out and improve the lives of hundreds of families and children
in our community. JFS received its largest one-time gift in the
agency’s history from the Estate of Bernard Sherman. A portion
of the $2.3M endowment will provide financial assistance to
teens in our community enabling them to participate in Jewish
life cycle events such as hebrew school, Jewish youth group trips
& conventions, participation in the Maccabi Games, advocacy
conferences, Israel experiences including High School in Israel,
Gap Year Programs, and the March of the Living. This past year,
JFS had expanded its Special Needs services by providing case
management for adults with special needs.

At 23, Dana had thought she had met the perfect man.
Unfortunately, after they got married, Billy became controlling
and violent. A few months before we met her at a shelter, he had
broken her arm. She swore it would be the last time he would ever
hurt her. JFS helped her buy clothes and other essentials because
she and her children, ages 2 and 4, had fled with very little. JFS
paid her phone bill and helped with childcare while she looked
for work. Eventually, Dana landed a job, and through our referral
to Palm Beach County Victim Services, she was able to find an
apartment. Her JFS Case Worker checks in with her from time
to time. “I never knew life could be so peaceful,” Dana told us
recently. “Thanks to JFS the kids and I are so happy.”
HIGHLIGHTS
$197,000 in scholarships enabled 295 children to
attend summer camp.
159 New assessments were performed for
victims of domestic abuse.
Assisted 46 individuals with special needs and their
families by providing $50,000 in financial assistance
