The Kindness Book

nce upon a time within a small village lived a small boy.
He was orphaned and poor and he had no friends. He
could not read or write, for he had no money.
He lived from the fruits of the forest and that was also his
special place.
Within the forest, he had friends. All the animals came to him,
for his heart was kind. He also had a special gift - one that no
one knew about.
You see, when this boy was still a baby, an enchantress had
put a spell on him.
He could understand what everyone was thinking, how they
were feeling and also what they thought about him.
This broke this little boy’s heart, because he saw a different
side to what it meant to be human. He could understand
animals too. They were kind to him and their thoughts were
pure, they were his true friends.
One day, the word spread that the Royal Family was coming
to the village. The Royal Family would pass through the
village and might need a place to stay as their journey was
very long.
Everyone in the village did their best – for they wanted the
Royal Family to stay with them. They cleaned the windows,
scrubbed the floors and watered the gardens.
The little boy, whose tiny house was in a mess, couldn’t be
bothered with the news. It’s not as if they would pick his
house anyway when there were so many beautiful homes to
choose from.
Besides, they would probably stay with the minister. The
thought of the visit didn’t even cross his mind twice and off to
the forest he went.
When he came back, he saw a huge commotion. As he got
closer, he saw the Royal Family’s horses were in front of his
house.
