Distribution I had an idea for my Babel level. I returned to the original story whilst writing the research part of the book, and decided to re-interpret the meaning in a new way. As mentioned in my research, The Babel Story is more than a simple etiological children’s tale. Part of its meaning comes from the flawed philosophy of things being “too big to fail”. As a political story; it embodies the idea that centralised power and wealth is inherently wrong. It was this aspect, rather than the language creation aspect, that I wanted to focus on in this level. I sketched out an idea for a “network” game where the users are trying to adjust positions of objects to create a distantly and evenly distributed network. By measuring the average distance between objects, and measuring the range between the smallest and longest connections, I could give feedback on how well set up the network is. A lower value is given for the ordered, evenly distributed system than for the less structured one. This was almost one of the main interaction stages, but was cut as its play was similar to level 4’s. 38
