Temple Shalom events
open to the community

Torah Talk
Join the volunteer-led discussion of
the week’s Torah portion on the first
Saturday of each month. On July 7 the
portion is Pinchas, and on August 4 the
Torah portion is Eikev. There will be a
light breakfast at 8:15 a.m. with discussion
to follow at 8:30 a.m. There is no
charge and all are welcome.
Summer Shabbat Friday service time
There’s something a little different for
Friday evening Shabbat services. On
Fridays, July 13 through August 17,
we meet at 5:30 p.m. for a “pre-neg”
of wine and cheese. Socialize and meet
new friends before we head into the
sanctuary for the Shabbat service at 6:00
p.m. This is great for those who don’t
like to drive after dark.
Shabbat on the beach –
two dates this summer!
Join us in Lowdermilk Park on Fridays,
July 6 and August 31. We’ll begin with
a kosher-style (no pork, no mixing meat
and dairy in the same dish) pot luck dinner
in the gazebo at the north end of the
park at 6:00 p.m. followed by a beautiful
sunset Shabbat service on the beach at
7:00 p.m. Temple Shalom will provide
the delicious fried chicken.
Please bring something to drink
for yourself and a dish to share. If your
names begins with A-I please bring a
side dish, J-S please bring a salad, and
T-Z please bring an appetizer. Please
plan on bringing enough to serve 8 to 10
people. RSVP to Temple Shalom. Don’t
forget a beach chair!
Tuesdays with Torah
On three consecutive Tuesdays, August
14 through August 28, meet in the social
hall at Temple Shalom. You bring your
lunch and Rabbi Adam Miller will bring
the texts to spark an interactive discussion
in the tradition of Judaism. RSVP
to Temple Shalom.
Open House
Temple Shalom will have an Open
House before our Shabbat Services on
Friday, August 24 at 6:30 p.m. We’re
excited to share information on our new
voluntary dues structure. We will have
the answers to all those questions you
have about our Temple family. Open to
all and there is no charge. Wine, cheese
and good company. How could you go

Temple Shalom welcomes
new executive director
Temple Shalom is pleased to announce
that Deborah Rosen Fidel
will be starting as executive
director of Temple Shalom on July 1.
Deborah Rosen Fidel
has been serving the public
sector and non-profit
community of Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, for the last
24 years in both a volunteer
and professional
capacity. Deborah began
her career as an attorney,
but left the workforce for
ten years to be a stay-athome
mother to her three
sons: Matthew (23), Noah
(21) and Joshua (17).
When Josh entered kindergarten and she
was ready to rejoin the paid workforce,
her husband, Bob, encouraged her to
follow her passion and try her hand at
Jewish communal service.
Deborah served as the executive
director of the local chapter of the
Zionist Organization of America, and
the Pittsburgh affiliate of the American
Jewish Committee. She was executive
director at Temple Sinai, a large Reform
temple, where she honed the wide array
of skills that she will bring to Temple
Shalom. Before coming to Naples, she

for Arts and Technology as an organizational
development, fundraising and
management consultant.
Deborah earned a
B.A. in Near Eastern
and Judaic Studies from
Brandeis University, a
J.D. from Boston University
School of Law, and an
M.J.P.S. (Master’s of Jewish
Professional Studies)
from the Spertus Institute.
When not working
or spending time with
family and friends, Deborah
enjoys cycling, walking
on the beach and
listening to podcasts.
She and her husband, Bob, are both
looking forward to becoming part of the
Greater Naples Jewish community.
