Dear readers and contributors, we hope you like our new
magazine layout and website. This edition will be the last
printed copy for 2018 as we begin our transition to a web - only
format. From October this year, you will be able to read our
publication online. Our site will provide you with information
about the Southern Highlands in a newer and smarter way. Do
keep an eye out for another printed version early in 2019.

latest news on, markets, festivals, fairs and events and be sure to
bookmark it so you can access it wherever you go.
Meanwhile, over the coming months, there will be an event
or festival to interest visitors and locals alike in this beautiful
region.
Camden will host the annual Antique Fair in August. The fair
will have up to thirty dealers from NSW and interstate who will
bring top quality furniture, jewellery, porcelain, artefacts, linen
and lace, and collectable items to sell at the fair.
During September you can look forward to more events when
Camden will hold its annual, two-week festival of family fun
and entertainment and Bowral will host the annual Home and
Garden Show; all you fancy for your home and garden in the
one venue.
Bundanoon will hold its annual Garden Ramble with markets,
open gardens and displays to enjoy, and in the midst of the
Spring festival season, Robertson will host its Open Garden
event in October. Be sure not to miss the annual Warragamba
DamFest set in the beautiful Wollondilly region also in October.
If theatre and classical music tickle your fancy then mark your
calendar for the HTG presentation of the Sound of Music in
November and the SHSO Concert Series in September, in
Bowral.
Lastly, if you have an interest in antiques, be sure to attend the
annual Antique Fair in Robertson in November, when Sydney
and regional dealers provide a stunning display of antique
jewellery, silverware, glass, linen and furniture for sale.

Mittagong
Mittagong township is rich in history and
is known as the gateway to the Southern
Highlands. The town has a number of

Fame. Bowral is a most delightful country
town situated in a valley at the foot of

Gallery On Track
in Goulburn
During the next three months, Gallery on Track
will host three very diverse and interesting
exhibitions! July’s Artist of the Month, Peter
Collins - Wood Work & Scuplting Artist, will
display examples of his beautifully crafted
pieces made from a large range of different
woods. Peter’s exhibition simply entitled
“WOOD” will include items such as brooches
and mirrors and will open at 2.00p.m. Sunday
8th July and run until Sunday 29th July.
In August the Gallery will feature another
talented member, Cathy Hutton, in her
exhibition titled “BOTTONI RINNOVATI -
Vintage Italian Button Creativity” The buttons
Cathy discovers in Italy are far too unusual to
stay hidden in nonna’s button box or on the
dusty shelves of a forgotten village button
shop. Cathy rescues them from oblivion and
fashions them into stunning one-off decorative
pieces including brooches and necklaces.
Cathy’s exhibition, opening officially at 3.00p.m.

through ’til Sunday, 26th August.
September will feature works from many
different Gallery members over a wide range of
art and craft techniques but with all following
the theme of “P.S. - Postcards & Sculpture”.

talented and creative members produce for
this exhibition which opens at 2.00p.m. on
Sunday 2nd and runs through the rest of that
month.

Fair, Robertson 17 & 18 November
The 17th and 18th November 2018 will again
see the School of Arts Hall at Robertson
transformed into an impressive showcase
of antiques when dealers from all around
the country combine for the Tenth Annual
Robertson Antiques and Collectables Fair.
Traditionally, the aim of a fair is to cater for
all tastes and incomes, from the smallest
thimble to a grand Victorian chest. Prices are
competitive and the range of items for sale
is enormous, enabling customers to view
many different dealers all together under one
roof, instead of travelling to many different
establishments.
Georgian and Victorian jewellery, English and
European porcelain, silver, glass, linen, lamps,
collectables and furniture, both rustic and
traditional will be displayed with great care and
pride, the dealers themselves endeavouring to
supply as much information as possible to help
the collector.
The Robertson Antiques Fair will be a bonanza
for the village with a great number of tourists
visiting the fair and also visiting many local
attractions such as our three local waterfalls,
the Illawarra Fly treetop walk, the Robertson
Heritage Railway Station Gallery , the Village
Woodworks that also incorporates the
Robertson Guild art and craft display and the
Old Cheese Factory Complex.
After your visit to the Antiques Fair there is still
plenty to do in the village such as browsing
through the many shops selling antiques, arts
and crafts, paintings, books, foodstuffs and local
produce. Also why not visit one of the many
cafes for morning / afternoon tea or lunch.
Events like the fair are important to the School
of Arts Committee who rely on income from
these functions to maintain the hall. During
the fair the ladies from the hall committee
will be serving light lunches and morning/
afternoon teas.
The Robertson Antiques Fair will be open to
the public from 9am until 5pm on Saturday
17 November and from 10am until 4pm on
Sunday 18 November. Admission is $8 for
adults and includes a lucky door prize ticket.
Accompanied children are free. There is plenty
of parking nearby and wheelchair access into
the hall.

The Highland’s Theatre Group To Present
The Musical, ’The Sound of Music’
In November 2018
After the enormous success of ‘Belfast Girls’
in May, you would think that the Highlands
Theatre Group might deserve a short break, but
you’d be wrong.
The particularly cold and windy day of
Saturday, June
16, did nothing
to deter the
carloads of
potential
Marias, Rolfs,
Brigittas, nuns
and various von
Trapp children,
arriving to
audition for a
role in the wellloved,
family
favourite, ‘The
Sound of Music’.
From 9:30am
until late
afternoon, the
corridors and
various rooms
of THSPA, The Highlands School of Performing
Arts, became the place where nervous
anticipation, confidence and talent, either
combined to bring elation or disappointment,
as adults and children alike, performed in front
of an open audition panel.
For even the seasoned performers who arrived,
some with guitars, others in various modes of
costume, the audition process still proved an
exciting, if not daunting challenge.
On an open audition panel, there are no
favourites, no forgone conclusions and all who
wish to explore their talent are free to do so. For
some, this day might just provide them with
an opportunity to discover an entirely new
pathway in life and to serve as a catalyst for an
enduring love of Theatre.
HTG always welcomes new and familiar faces
on these days and June 16 proved to be no
exception, particularly when it came to the
wonderfully talented collection of children,
ranging in age from five to eighteen who came
prepared to sing
and perform
in front of the
panel.
To make the
final casting
decision
among such a
talented and
diverse group
is no easy task.
Knowing that
some will walk
away feeling the
disappointment
of not being
given a role,
is not easy for
the decision
makers either,
but hopefully whatever the outcome, all will
have felt inspired and proud of their efforts on
the day.
Rehearsals are well underway and with a
double cast of von Trapp children, an entire
convent of nuns, in addition to the main
characters, the Director, Barbara Handley will
undoubtedly bring her wealth of knowledge
and experience to the staging of this much
loved production.
‘The Sound of Music’ will open in November at
the Mittagong Play House. Further information

Bundanoon Garden Ramble 27 & 28 October
The Bundanoon Village opens up again to
showcase eight lovely private gardens on the
Weekend of 27 & 28 October 2018.
The gardens offer something for all tastes,
combining large open spaces, cool climate,
formal, mixed with hidden room and paths,
water views, stunning cottage, productive and
native.
This year, four new gardens will delight the
visitor whilst the other four gardens, although
being open three plus years ago, have
undergone changes so as to draw viewers in
for a second look!
An added bonus this year, at several of the
gardens, are market stalls offering sculptures,
ceramics, exotic and native trees and plants.
The Soldiers’ Memorial Hall in the middle of
the village, also has an array of garden and gift
stalls offering delights for sale so is definitely
worth a wander after purchasing your ticket.
Tickets are again $20 for all eight gardens or
$5 for a single garden and are valid for both
days. A colour brochure containing all garden
descriptions and maps will be given out with
the tickets.
Shuttle Buses offer a more relaxed transport
mode to/from gardens. These will be leaving
every 15 minutes from the village to ensure
visitors are catered for in a timely manner.
Refreshments are on offer at one of the
gardens whilst Bundanoon village shops are
renowned for their great coffee, delicious food
and hospitality.
