SUNDAY, JULY 1st<br />

CAR SHOW<br />

During the early 1900s, Amesbury<br />

carriage makers began to build<br />

bodies for cars made by Stanley,<br />

Cadillac, Hudson, and others. As<br />

part of Amesbury’s 350th Anniversary<br />

Celebration, the Amesbury Carriage<br />

Museum has recruited a collection<br />

of “Amesbury-bodied” cars that will<br />

be on view during the Sunday, July 1<br />

Carriagetown Car Show. The public<br />

is invited to this free event which will<br />

take place on Sunday, July 1. The<br />

show begins at 9 am and will run<br />

until 2 pm. In case of bad weather,<br />

the show will be rescheduled on July<br />

8. In addition to this collection of<br />

historic cars, the streets of downtown<br />

Amesbury will be lined with over two<br />

hundred restored automobiles from<br />

the 1980s and much earlier. This has<br />

become a very popular event with car<br />

enthusiasts and the general public. To<br />

find the show – just come to the center<br />

of town. Market Square, Friend Street,<br />

Main Street and more will be filled<br />

The First Religious Society Unitarian<br />

Universalist and the Museum of Old<br />

Newbury will host a community<br />

reading of Frederick Douglass’s<br />

impassioned <strong>18</strong>52 speech, “The<br />

Meaning of the Fourth of July for the<br />

Negro” on Sunday, July 1 at 11:00<br />

am. 26 Pleasant Street, Newburyport.<br />

The shared reading will be followed<br />

by discussion and light refreshments.<br />

All are invited and welcome to attend.<br />

For the July 1 event, readers from the<br />

community will orate the Douglass<br />

speech. If you are interested in being a<br />

public and open to all. We hope that<br />

AUCTION IN PINES<br />

The “Auction in the Pines” will be at<br />

the Amesbury Park Band Stand from<br />

10:30 am-3:30 pm on Wed, July<br />

4 as part of the 350th Anniversary<br />

Amesbury Days Celebration and is<br />

hosted by the Bartlett Museum. (Rain<br />

date is Saturday, July 7th.) Parking<br />

is available at the Highland Street<br />

baseball field across from High School.<br />

Bring a chair or blanket. Proceeds go<br />

to the Bartlett Museum to fulfill its<br />

mission of maintaining the building,<br />

its collections and sharing Amesbury’s<br />

legacy. An afternoon of family fun<br />

begins with live music and children’s<br />

activities starting at 10:30 am. The<br />

Auction will begin at 11:00 am with<br />

“Zeke” Derocki as auctioneer. Food<br />

venders are available to buy snacks<br />

and lunch with choices from Hodgies<br />

Ice Cream and Charlie LaBella Food<br />

Cart. Donations are being accepted<br />

on Sundays from 1:00-3:00 pm at the<br />

Bartlett Museum, <strong>27</strong>0 Main Street,<br />

historic, tools, household, small<br />

furniture, dishes and collectible items.<br />

AMESBURY FIREWORKS<br />

This year’s fireworks display will be on<br />

our nations birthday of July 4th! The<br />

fireworks will start at dusk (around<br />

9pm).We’re proud to bring back the<br />

multi-award winning Brandy, who<br />

are high energy entertainment with<br />

great crowd interaction. Their song<br />

repertoire is seemingly endless, there<br />

will be something for everyone. There<br />

will be lots of food vendors, your<br />

favorites from years past and a couple of<br />

new ones added in for your enjoyment.<br />

All of this will get you ready for the<br />

spectacular Fireworks display that end<br />

the night with a BANG! Parking is<br />

available at Woodsom Farm, Cashman<br />

Elementary School, or Amesbury<br />
