THE DENOMINATOR<br />
IS NOT THE SAME
WORKING ON THE IMPROPER FRACTION<br />
Start by finding least common multiple or LCM for a denomina<strong>to</strong>r. Th<strong>is</strong> <strong>is</strong><br />
because it <strong>is</strong> important <strong>to</strong> ensure that <strong>the</strong> denomina<strong>to</strong>r <strong>is</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>same</strong> and <strong>to</strong> <strong>add</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> <strong>fraction</strong> afterwards, finding <strong>the</strong> common multiple which <strong>the</strong>y are sharing<br />
and <strong>the</strong>n go for <strong>the</strong> lowest.
MULTIPLY A NUMERATOR WITH<br />
THE DENOMINATOR IN ORDER<br />
TO GET DENOMINATORS THAT<br />
LOOK ALIKE. IT IS IMPORTANT<br />
TO MULTIPLY AN ENTIRE<br />
FRACTION IN ORDER TO MAKE<br />
DENOMINATORS WHICH MAY<br />
BECOME A LEAST COMMON<br />
MULTIPLE.
TURN ANOTHER FRACTION IN ITS EQUIVALENT FRACTION<br />
AND THEN REMEMBER THAT IF YOU ADJUST 1 FRACTION IN<br />
THE PROBLEM, YOU WILL NEED TO ADJUST ALL OTHER<br />
FRACTION SO THAT THEY MAY BECOME THE EQUIVALENT<br />
OF THE ORIGINAL TASK.
YOU CAN ADD THE NUMERATOR; HOWEVER, YOU SHOULD<br />
LEAVE A DENOMINATOR ALONE. WHEN THE DENOMINATORS<br />
HAVE BECOME THE SAME, YOU SHOULD ADD NUMERATORS<br />
AND PUT AN ANSWER OF A DENOMINATOR.
SIMPLIFY OR REDUCE AN<br />
ANSWER WHEN NEEDED:<br />
WHEN THE ANSWER IS NOT<br />
PROPER, IT IS EASY TO TURN A<br />
FRACTION IN THE MIXED<br />
NUMBER. IN DOING THIS, THE<br />
PERSON SHOULD DIVIDE A<br />
NUMERATOR USING A<br />
DENOMINATOR IN ORDER TO<br />
GET THE WHOLE NUMBER.
HE CAN THEN SEE THE<br />
NUMBER OF THE PARTS<br />
WHICH HAD BEEN LEFT<br />
AND THEN PLACE SUCH<br />
NUMBER OVER A<br />
DENOMINATOR. A<br />
REDUCED FRACTION WILL<br />
BE SIMPLIFIED EVEN<br />
FURTHER.
BY ADDING THE MIXED NUMBER
LOOK FOR A LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR WHEN<br />
NEEDED: IF THE DENOMINATOR IS THE NOT THE SAME,<br />
THE USER WILL HAVE TO WRITE DOWN DIFFERENT<br />
MULTIPLES OF EVERY DENOMINATOR IN ORDER TO FIND<br />
THE NUMBER THAT THEY ARE HAVING IN COMMON.
IT IS GOOD TO MAKE A FRACTION<br />
EQUIVALENT IN ORDER TO<br />
CHANGE ITS DENOMINATORS. THE<br />
DENOMINATOR HAS TO BECOME<br />
LOWEST COMMON MULTIPLE<br />
WHICH YOU CAN FIND. THE<br />
WHOLE FRACTION HAS TO BE<br />
MULTIPLIED BY A CERTAIN<br />
NUMBER TO GET THE<br />
DENOMINATOR TO BECOME<br />
COMMON MULTIPLE BUT THE<br />
LOWEST POSSIBLE.
CHANGING OF THE FRACTION WITHIN THE PROBLEM IN ORDER TO<br />
MAKE IT BE EQUIVALENT. WHEN ANOTHER FACTION IN THE<br />
EQUATION HAS MANY DENOMINATORS, THE USER HAS TO MULTIPLY<br />
THEM SO THAT THEY CAN HAVE THE SAME DENOMINATOR. WHEN<br />
THE FRACTION HAS ITS OWN DENOMINATOR, YOU SHOULD NOT<br />
ADJUST ITS FRACTION.
ADD A NUMERATOR SO THAT<br />
THE DENOMINATOR CAN<br />
CONTINUE TO BE ONE: WHEN<br />
THE DENOMINATOR IS THE<br />
SAME, THEN IT IS THE RIGHT<br />
TIME TO ADD ONLY THE<br />
NUMERATORS LEAVING ALONE<br />
THE DENOMINATORS.
