“Jack how is your mother? I’ve missed you
both dearly” said Mike, with tears in his
eyes.
“I’m fine Dad, thanks” Jack answered
sarcastically. The thought of Mother
brought tears to both soldiers.
“So” gulped Mike. “Are you…”
“Weapons, soldiers!” interrupted
Chief, “We need to get to battle!” They
went out to the field. The reunited soldiers
talked for a while until they heard the words
every soldier dreads.
“OVER THE TOP!” cried the Chief. Jack looked at his father in fear. “I’ll
go and check it out” Mike whispered.
Mike climbed out of the trench. Within a few seconds, Jack heard a
sound that terrified him. BOOM! Mike dropped back dead.
Jack's first instinct was to cry, but then the adrenaline pumped through
his body, and he felt like nothing could stop him. He climbed out of the
trench, sprinting as fast as his legs could bring him; he was shooting ten men
a second until there were no men left
They had won the battle, but this was only the first. There would be
many more to come. It took Jack a moment to realize he lost his father,
forever. Nothing in the world could ever replace his father.

Background Information
This story is told from Sammy’s point of view. Sammy is a 14 year old girl who
has no mum. To the best of her knowledge, her mother has died of an illness.
She was told this by her Dad, but could not go to the funeral. Sammy has
recently been in hospital a whole school term. Although nobody can tell her
why, she has a rare disease which means she has no feelings or emotions.
Her only friend helps out.
“I’m home, Dad!” I called, bucking my heavy bag onto the sofa. No answer.
I was expecting that due to the fact that he never comes home this early.
But surprisingly, Dad was home. He hadn’t replied because he was busy
studying the files he had brought home.
“Hey Dad?” I knocked on the open door, “Hey honey.” Dad mumbled
without looking up, “Can I ask…?” I paused when he looked up. He had big
black circles around his eyes and his hair was all messed up, “Hmm?” “A
question?” I finished.
Dad sat up. “Um, can I have a play-date with my friend Savannah?” He
looked at me blankly. After a long silence, he finally spoke up. “Yes, but
come back before 9pm” “Got it” I agreed.
I arrived at Savi’s house at 3pm. “Oh hey!” Savi greeted me warmly
“Come in! Come in!” She ushered me inside, “So, what should we do first?”
She smiled gracefully, “Uh I don’t know…” I answered with confusion, “Do
you have any suggestions?” “No” Savi answered sadly, “That’s why I was
asking you for suggestions!”
As she finished her sentence, I wandered into the kitchen to find
something to do. I looked down at the table, there was a newspaper with a
headline saying ‘WOMAN MISSING!’ It was dated just over four years ago.
Just when my mother died. I started to read it. The woman’s surname is
‘Lycan’ – my family name, and, wait a minute…there’s a picture of…my
mother! My head starts to spin. Has Dad lied to me? How could this happen
to me? THUNK.
instructed him to bring her Zefron’s head.
Kolarov went to find Desmond. It only took him twenty
days, and he put Zefron under a spell.
Desmond was working on a Zefron-hyper car then the
was only one thing left to do - fight them. He burned the Goems to
death. He went to the boiler room, but he found something else...

A Novel by Sarah Cawley.
Lara could build a tent: she knew she could. She knew she could if
she just had the right tent pieces. But she didn’t. She had a few big
leaves, some twigs and an rusty old bucket. All of which Fred had
brought. She didn’t want to admit it, but he had done well, seeing as
they were in a rainforest, to find these things. She stuck one of the
sticks into the mud and threaded the leaf onto it. She ended up with
a floppy leaf on a rotting stick.“It will have to do” she sighed.
”Fred!” she belted.”Here” he cowered, running over.”Where’s your
tent?”He pointed. It was beautiful. But how he had managed to
make it beautiful, she did not know.”We’re swapping” she
announced.”There’s your tent”. She pointed at her own tent. Fred
glanced over and nodded slowly.”What?” she snapped.”Nothing” he
replied, and walked over to what was supposed to be a tent.
He sat on the ground, and started to build a sand castle. Lara
stomped over to him. “We have more important things to be doing
than building sandcastles, now get your traps and start moving!” she
demanded, racing into the rainforest.
As Fred came in, his boots started squelching into the wet
mud. Loudly. Very loudly. Then they heard a screech. “You idiot!” Lara
trembled. “They’ve heard us!”
“Who’s heard us?” Fred gulped. Suddenly, they saw colourful bolts
zooming through the sky. “The parrots! Run!” Screeeech. They heard it
again. The noise seemed to be getting louder, and closer.
“Lara!” Fred panted. “Look at that tree - it’s got a hole in it! We
can hide in there!” As they turned in the direction of the tree, Lara
was sure she had never run faster in her entire life. Fortunately, when
they reached the tree, there was a springy moss bed beneath and
around the tree. They quickly bounced upwards and through the
hole. Both panting, they frantically covered the gap with Fred’s
jacket.
“Why were they chasing us? I thought parrots were friendly!”
“Those parrots are the most vicious species of birds on the
planet, but their skin is the most valuable. Which is why we’re here”
Lara explained.
“Are you sure your boss needs their skin?” Fred asked.
“Yes, he said he would rather have their skin over a million
other parrot skins altogether”.
“Hmphh” Fred sighed. Suddenly, they heard a rustling sound.
Lara looked around. Eyes. Big amber eyes staring straight at her.
“Net” she whispered, holding out her hand. Fred quietly passed a net
to her. The parrot started jumping around. Lara lunged, catching the
parrot cleanly.
“Let’s go” she said. Fred took down his jacked and Lara
jumped down, taking the bird with her.
“Are we done now?” Fred asked. “In the Amazon?”.
She looked at him angrily. “We’ve caught one parrot Fred,
one!”“Oh, sorry” he said quietly. “So no, we’re not finished”, Lara
growled.
Another screech came from the distance. The sound made
Lara jump, but when she had recovered, she noticed that Fred’s
trousers looked the slightest bit darker than they had before.
“Did you, wet yourself?” She asked, trying and failing miserably
to hold in her laughter.
“Yes”, Fred responded, as they walked back towards the
tents.

Matt and his two friends Phil and Jason are on a secret mission on
Mars in a pyramid, to find out how planet Earth was destroyed.
Matt reached for the button to open the door. “Are you out of
your mind?!” shouted Jason. “Did you hit your head?” asked Phil.
“When I say jump, we jump.” Matt ordered. “I guess we have
no choice.” sighed Phil. “JUMP!” Matt screamed, and they all
jumped onto a platform. The elevator kept rising and crashed into
the ceiling. “That was close and a waste of time!” “And we almost
died!” added Phil.
“Why did we even come here?” asked Jason. “Didn’t you
see, on the computer, how they destroyed planet Earth, our
home?” “Did you even look?”
“Nah we just looked at it and nodded our heads when you
were talking to us.”Jason explained. “I don’t even know why I
brought you two.”Matt said in frustration. “You’d die without
us!”Phil yelled. Matt’s brain urged him to take out his pocket gun
and shoot them both, but he resisted. “I think it’s the other way
round, don’t you?”Jason asked Phil. He paused. “Oh yeah were
pretty useless!” Cried Phil. “Come on, let’s get back to camp”
suggested Matt. “Wait, where’s the exit?” Phil asked. They all
looked in front of them, at the entrance they had come in by, but
it was no longer there. Instead there was a solid stone wall in its
place.

Chapter 22: Operation Dynamo
Finally, we reached Dunkirk, but after seeing the dead (and halfdead)
bodies, I wish I had just gone back home. But still, if a job is
worth doing, then it’s worth doing properly. After a few minutes,
Major Thompson told us to win over the skies and destroy and
Heinkel.
“You see, if you don’t do this, the Heinkels will bomb the
beach like mad and we will have to abort the Operation. So now
the only thing we were focusing on were those Heinkel 161’s.
Chapter 23: The End of Kyle Barton?
We battled long and hard trying to win over the skies, in an epic
episode of cat and mouse. But then, disaster struck. I saw a
Heinkel straight ahead, and the adrenaline kicked in. The next
moment, I was in hot pursuit of it. But this time I should have
checked my mirrors, because a Heinkel came from right behind
me and shot. I could feel the rattling of machine guns bang into
the back and sides of the plane. At that moment, I lost control of
the plane, and was spinning fast and hard. However, that was the
least of my troubles. Somehow, the plane caught fire, and before I
could put it out, I crashed down hard into the sand. I couldn’t see
a thing – for a few seconds, all I could see was a bright light.
Chapter 24: Hospital Rooms
I woke up to the sound of a trolley being pushed. I saw a bunch of
unopened envelopes from the RAF, and just as I was about to
ead them, a nurse with a Red Cross on her apron came in with
breakfast.
Chapter 25: Benjamin’s Story
After breakfast, Major Thompson came in to visit me and see how I
was. When he was finished quizzing me, he sat down and began
to tell me own his own story...

The murder of Chris Walberg took place at 11.08pm.
The killer broke into Chris’s house without a sound.
He then proceeded to Chris’s bedroom, where he
killed him. He took all of Chris’s valuables, and his
head. The killer was known to the criminal side of the
world as the Earth’s version of ‘Boba Fett’ and
‘Head Snatcher’. But he liked to go by the
name…DJ. He worked for all sorts of people and
killed their targets. He always took his victim’s heads
and hung them in his secret basement. This job was by far the
easiest one yet. His face was sweating under his mask. He was
tempted to take it off, but decided against it. He always wore a
mask, because if the police saw his face, they would be onto him
immediately. He crept out of the house and got into his car and
drove away. He changed his license plate after every kill, too.
*****************
Chris Walberg was a geometry expert to the public. He had
worked privately with Luka DeCinci (more on him later). He wasn’t
wealthy, but wasn’t poor. He liked to live a normal life. But when
his death came out on the news, people didn’t really spare him a
though because they hadn’t known him. And this leads us to the
main character, Jordan Merill.
*****************
Jordan sat on his couch in awe. Chris Walberg was Jordan’s
godfather. He had only met Chris once, at his dad’s fortieth
birthday party, and that was three years ago. Jordan got the
impression that Chris was a mysterious, enigmatic character that
always had his nose buried in his work.
“Dad!” shouted Jordan. “Come and see this!” His dad
opened the door to the living room. “I’m kind of busy right now”
he said. He stopped in his tracks when he saw the TV.
“Oh no” he said softly. “What’s happened?”
Jordan gulped and said “He was murdered”.
“By who?” his dad spluttered.
“The police are saying that it was the Russian Mafia”.
“Why the Mafia?”
“Apparently the Mafia made contact with Luka DaCinci,
and told Luke to get a classified object from Chris. I assume they
didn’t get it from Luke, so they killed Chris.
His dad fell to his knees and touched the picture of Chris on
the news tenderly.
“I can’t believe he’s gone. He was my only friend from
college, and he’s gone”.
Jordan got out of his seat and gave his Dad a hug. “It’ll be
okay, Dad”.
2 days earlier…
Luka DaCinci stood in his kitchen, with two men
pointing guns at him. One man wore a black
uniform. The other wore a jersey.
“What do you want?” he asked.
“You know right well what we want” Jersey
said. The man in the uniform held out a piece of paper in his free
hand. “We want this”.
“How could you possibly want this?” Luka spluttered.
Mr Jersey cocked his gun.
“We’ve known that you and a man called Chris Walberg
have had this for years. You will get this off Chris within the next 48
hours. Otherwise, we will have no choice but to kill Chris and take
it ourselves.

Why We Should Have Phones in School
Written by Leonardo Cuta
Dear Teachers,
I am writing to all of you because I think that children should be
allowed to have phones in school. I think that after reading my
arguments, you will agree with me.
Firstly, everyone works hard and deserves a break. It would be
nice to take a break by going on your phone.
Also, in case of emergency, students need to be able to contact
their parents if they have an emergency. Some children may have
really important calls
Finally, to help with lessons and to use the internet - when they
have a test or are playing a game to help with the learning.
This is why I think children should be allowed to have phones in
school.
Yours sincerely,
Why Smoking Should Be Illegal
Written by Oisín Dunne
Due to the increasing amount of
people getting Lung Cancer, I am
writing to you on why Smoking and
Vaping should be banned.
The problem with Smoking and
Vaping is that they are some of the causes of Lung Cancer, and
to add to that, Lung Cancer is sometimes terminal, which means
you might die eventually after getting diagnosed.
Furthermore, Smoking and Vaping are very addictive. Clearly, by
this point you’ll have figured out that it can do a big deal of
damage to the Lungs.
In a recent medical study, it was found that inhaling immense
amounts of smoke can rupture your attitude for pretty much your
whole entire life. Proving the point to you why Smoking and
Vaping is extremely bad for you and your mental health.
To conclude, Smoking and Vaping are negative aspects of some
people’s daily lives, therefore I believe that any form of Smoking
and Vaping should result in a hefty fine and/or a short amount of
jail time.
Yours sincerely,
Oisín Dunne.
Beluga Whales
Composed by Goda Blazyte and Sarah Cawley
Verse 1
Beluga whales are extremely
Friendly
But climate change is affecting them
Terribly
The ice is melting
They have nowhere to sleep
Doesn't that make you want to
Weep?
They’re going to be eaten
Cause there is nowhere to hide
From the vicious orcas
Who aren’t on their side.
Chorus
Beluga whales may be
Small
But that doesn’t change
The fact at all
That they’re going extinct
Because of climate change (x3)
Verse 2
Beluga whales make funny faces
But soon they’ll be gone without
Any traces
This is because of climate change
It needs to stop now
Because it will all end in sobs
When the little white blobs are
Gone (x3)

As I sleep the nights away
I`ll be thinking of that first hey (thinking, thinking)
And if I may hurt her
And if you`re happy too
That’d be my dream come true
‘Stuck in the Middle’
Composed by Noah Flynn
I`ve been waiting
Waiting to be free
I`ve been falling
From an endless tree
Then I saw a miracle
I never thought I'd see it
Everything became bright
All the candles were lit
I saw you in the corner
Over there
You looked so perfect
With beautiful hair
I had to love you
Love you a little
Because you were stuck
Stuck in the middle
The Lucky Man
Written by Matteo Serban
Yesterday, a perfectly normal man named Ben went to
his local shop. He found a lotto ticket on the floor, which
was worth $15 million! Ben thought it was a dream at first,
but it turned out to be real. He has already bought a new
car, a house, and a yacht. He is going to spend his time
playing with his friends and his cousins. He is a very happy
man.
Do Not Trust Celery!
Written by Maia Fogarty
Fidelly Dumbman is the Maidrain version of Nelson Mandela or
Daniel O'Connell , except he failed. In 1899, he peacefully
protested for celery rights. The King and Queen denied him. He
smuggled 3,500 celeries into the innocent town of Gallygaf for his
protest. The bloodthirsty celeries shouldn't have been trusted. The
head celery, Coona, wanted to take over Maidria. He even
invited the cucumber tribe to help. Unfortunately, they wiped out
half the population, including Fidelley. Never trust celery. Your life
will end in war, betrayal and the smell of celery (nobody wants to
die in the smell of celery).
Kate the Orangutan
Written by Maia Fogarty
A loud buzzing sound was in the distance, blocking the sound of
chirping birds. I went out to collect some food, leaving my son,
Kyle, in a high tree. When i came back my beautiful home was
destroyed. A large vehicle was edging closer. I dodged around
it.“KYLE!” I screamed. No answer. I ran.I saw Kyle’s dead body right
beside me . Tears started running down my face, but I had to
keep running.
Unfortunately this was the last we heard from Kate. Sadly, she got
run over by a deforestation truck. Two to three thousand
orangutans get killed every year because their homes are being
chopped down. All because of human greed. Look out for palm
oil. It's in almost every chocolate bar out there. There is a
particularly large amount of palm oil in Nutella. Please try to cut
down on the amount of Nutella you are eating!
‘Where Am I?
Written by Ben Fitzsimons Grey
“Wake up now!” yelled the guard. ‘Ouch!’ The guard had
punched Ben in the stomach. “Huh. Where am I?” asked Ben.
“You were transported here after beating up that witch, after you
escaped Rotted Empire.” said the guard. “Are you sure I
escaped?” asked Ben. “Just go to the cafeteria” said the guard.
“OK” muttered Ben. After he had eaten his breakfast, he saw two
men fighting in the corridor. One of them had his hands around
the other guys neck and was choking him. “Guard, help!’ Ben
roared. Immediately, the guard from earlier appeared. He pulled
the men apart, then-frog marched the man who had been doing
the choking away.
The other guy came over to Ben. “Thanks” he gasped, massaging
his throat. “I’m Sam. I’m your roommate – that second bed in your
room is mine”. “Nice to meet you” Ben replied. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah”, Sam grimaced. “There are some real nice guys around
here”.
‘The Strange Man’
Written by Patrick Buie
There is a strange man in the city of New York. During the day, he
is your average nice guy who works at the supermarket, but
during the night he is a cruel man that works for a gang called
TIGER CLAWS! His best friend’s name is Tim who works with him in
the supermarket. If you’re wondering what the strange man’s
name is, it’s John, or Killer 007.
Tim and John were on their way to work when they heard a
woman screaming for help, so they both ran, chasing the noise of
her endangered scream. She was being chased by a clown, so
John karate-kicked the clown and knocked him out. The woman
thanked them both. When they arrived at work, Tim asked John
how he could do that karate kick, but John didn’t answer. After
they finished, they went to see LA Galaxy vs. DC United, andLA
Galaxy won 3-0. John said he wanted to go home to sleep, but
five minutes later he was out of the house again, meeting his gang
in an unknown location.
The next day at work, Tim asked John if he
wanted to go to see a movie. John said he
couldn’t go because he was busy. Busy meant
that he was with his gang, but Tim didn’t know
that. John recognized one of his crew
members. The man winked at John and left
him a code. This code was not just any code, it
was a millionaire’s bank account code.

‘The Story of Jimmy’
Written by Sarah Cawley
One day, Jimmy wanted to dig a hole. So
he shouted ‘Mam, I want to dig a hole!”
Jimmy was an only child, so he always
got what he wanted, whenever he
wanted it. Jimmy’s mother came out with
a big glass of lemonade and a packet of
rolos. Then she saw noticed that Jimmy
was looking very happy.
‘What’s wrong, Jimmy?” she asked,
concerned.
“Mum”, Jimmy growled. “How many
times have I told you that I don’t want ice in my lemonade!”
“Sorry, Jimmy”. Jimmy was going red. “Don’t call me Jimmy! From
now on, you call me Sir!” he shouted. “Yes sir”, cowered his
mother. “Good” he said. “Now get me a shovel and more
lemonade with NO ICE!”
“Right away, Jimmy”. Jimmy started eating his rolos and out came
his shovel and he started digging. After about twenty minutes, he
found his Dad in the hole!
“Dad, what are you doing?” asked Jimmy. “I’m hiding from you!”
“Why?” “Because I don’t like you”. Then he grabbed Jimmy,
pulled him down into the hole, and climbed out himseld, and then
started filling up the hole with Jimmy inside.
“Did you do it?” asked Jimmy’s mother. “He’s gone!” laughed
Jimmy’s dad, and Jimmy’s mother and father lived happily ever
without Jimmy.
