Zembar Jewelers celebrates reopening, new beginnings<br />

After closing up a year<br />
ago, Kathy Lyons did not<br />
expect to be celebrating a<br />
reopening less than a year<br />
later.<br />
Lyons said she had wanted<br />
to change locations for<br />
years, but the logistics never<br />
seemed to work out. At the<br />
same time she was struggling<br />
with that, her mother was in<br />
hospice care.<br />
“It was just very overwhelming<br />
and so the only<br />
thing in my mind that I could<br />
do was, ‘I’m going to shut the<br />
store,’” she said.<br />
She sold her display cases<br />
and everything else from<br />
Zembar Jewelers except her<br />
computers and her jewelry<br />
bench.<br />
“Then I realized I’m a little<br />
too young to retire,” she said.<br />
After looking at different<br />
jobs, she said it didn’t make<br />
sense for her to go work for<br />
someone else after working<br />
for herself for so many<br />
years. It also did not make<br />
any sense for her to move her<br />
store away from New Lenox<br />
where most of her customers<br />
were.<br />
She moved into the new<br />
shop at 2457 E. Joliet Highway<br />
in New Lenox last November<br />
and had her grand<br />
reopening this past spring.<br />
After getting settled into<br />
the new location, Lyons did<br />
a drawing for a 0.5 carat diamond<br />
and said the winners<br />
were in disbelief when they<br />
found out they had won out<br />
of more than 100 people who<br />
entered.<br />
Besides having all new<br />
displays and a bigger space<br />
to work in, Lyons said a new<br />
personalization machine she<br />
added to the store has gotten<br />
a lot of use lately.<br />
She carries a variety of<br />
items from signs to jewelry<br />
that she can customize.<br />
In addition to the custom<br />
gifts and home goods, Lyons<br />
said after more than 30 years<br />
in the jewelry business what<br />
she truly enjoys is working<br />
on unique and meaningful<br />
custom jewelry pieces.<br />
“It’s not really my inspiration,<br />
it really is the customer’s,”<br />
Lyons said. “It’s what<br />
they envision, what they<br />
dream and what they imagine<br />
their piece to be. Then they<br />
just tell me about it, and we<br />
draw it together.”<br />
