“I went into labor at 26 weeks with twins and
was put on bed rest, most of which I spent
in the hospital. Each time I got discharged, I
was back within a couple of days. While there,
I had visits from the NICU staff, lactation
consultants, everyone to help prepare me for
the worst if the girls were to really make their
arrival that early. I made the decision very
early on that I’d allow them to receive donor
milk as I knew the benefits it can provide,
especially to preemies. I breastfed my first
child and she’s as healthy as can be. Since they
(twins) came preterm, the hospital offered
donor milk until my own milk came in.”
Mother’s Milk Is a Gift Like No Other
There is no greater gift to the family of a fragile NICU baby than donor milk.
Milk donations are considered medicinal and milk donors are considered lifesavers.
Why Donate Milk?
Multiple scientific studies have proven that when an infant’s mother’s own milk is not available Pasteurized
Donor Human Milk (PDHM) is the next best option. PDHM provides vital nutrition, immunologic protection and
antibodies that may be unavailable in formula. PDHM is endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP),
Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
Who is Eligible to Donate Milk?
You are a good candidate if you’re a mother who is currently or recently finished lactating
and has surplus milk, and if you are:
“As the mom of a NICU baby who received
Pasteurized Donor Human Milk it was
extremely important to me that I donate
back to The Milk Bank because I know
what a difference it can make. Donating
makes this a full circle experience for me.”
for my baby, it was a gift to me. The mothers
that pumped and provided that milk gave
me the gift of time. They gave me the gift of
patience. And they gave my child the gift of life.”
