SALUTING OUR FIRST RESPONDERS SALUTING AWARD-WINNERS AT THE GRANBY POLICE DEPARTMENT Submitted by Chief Carl Rosensweig Every day, police officers, civilian employees and citizens work together to improve the quality of life in our communities. This work often goes unrecognized. The Granby Police Department has developed a commendation committee to review instances of exceptional work and make recommendations to Chief of Police Carl Rosensweig for recognition. The committee members come from all ranks within the police department, including civilians. This year, three officers have earned Police Merit Awards, four officers have received letters of commendation, and four citizens have received the Police Citizen Award. In this issue of Granby Living Magazine, we highlight two members of the police department who were honored with commendation letters. In the coming months, we’ll feature the other award-winners. Chief ’s Letter of Commendation — Awarded to an officer or civilian employee as recognition of exceptional performance. Dispatcher Louann Hall Sergeant Steven Vernale On Feb. 3, 2018 at about 3 a.m., Sergeant Steven Vernale responded to a report of two people having been stabbed in their home, and the offender was present and armed with a knife. The backup officer was several minutes away. The sergeant knew he would likely be facing an armed and dangerous suspect who had committed a serious crime. En route to the call, Sergeant Vernale remained calm and asked appropriate questions of Dispatcher Louann Hall. He kept the dispatcher and his backup aware of the situation. Dispatcher Hall’s calm and professional manner with the wounded caller and with the responding officers provided complete and accurate information to the responding officers, which ultimately aided in the successful resolution of the incident. two seriously wounded victims were inside the home. With the armed suspect on the loose, the sergeant couldn’t provide aid to the victims right away. He confronted the suspect and took him into custody without the use of force. The backup officer arrived and they were then able to assist the victims. The couple in the home, the suspect’s parents, had been stabbed and slashed and were transported to a local hospital. The suspect was charged with attempted murder, assault in the first degree and assault in the first degree of an elderly person (60 and over). The State Police Central District Major Crime Squad assisted with scene documentation. Sergeant Vernale was faced with two seriously wounded stabbing victims and the bloody perpetrator. He was alone and had to prioritize making the scene safe by taking the suspect into custody and ensuring there were no other suspects present. He was then able to provide first aid to the victims. Sergeant Vernale’s training, judgment and skill allowed him to successfully handle this dangerous and life-threatening situation without loss of life. Source — Granby Police Department FIVE WAYS TO RULE THE LEADERBOARDS 1. Post great content (at least once per day. Twice is best.) 2. Request citizenship with many people (and they will often request it back). The more citizens you have in your Myopolis, the more exposure you will build. Exposure, interaction, comments etc. increase the likelihood that you will trend higher. 3. Interact with many posts. Comment, share, pingworthy, agree etc. The more interactions you have the more you will increase interest in people becoming your citizens. The more citizens, the more exposure for you and your brand. 4. Invite people to Myopolis. The more people you invite from other social media sites, or people who are new to social media, the larger your base. Remember, people don’t need to leave their current social media communities (although once they experience Myopolis they may make that choice). At first, it’s harder take someone away than it is to get them to add Myopolis. 5. Build your own communities that matter. Get four or five close friends, colleagues or clients to use Myopolis as their primary means of connecting. Even small groups begin to carry heavy influence and motivate people to remain active.
