The Walking Club is funded with a competitive grant recently awarded to the Georgetown Council Pets, Animals, Plus on Aging (COA) through a grant to the Massachusetts Associations of Councils on Aging by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. Led by a COA volunteer walking group leader, easy outdoor walking routes are planned starting from the Georgetown Senior Community Center. Indoor routes will be planned for inclement weather. An endurance exercise, walking can improve cardiovascular health and the circulatory system and delay or prevent many diseases such as diabetes, heart disease Health & Fitness and osteoporosis. The menus will include hot dogs, cheeseburgers, baked beans, corn on the cob, potato salad, watermelon, lemonade, birthday cake and ice cream. Cost is $2 for lunch. Reservations are required by July 18. The performance by the Over the Hill Band is supported in part by a grant from the Georgetown Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. The application by Douglas Stone, the applicant and property owner to amend the existing approval regarding the requirement for a sprinkler system in the proposed barn. The subject parcel consisting of 1.95 acres is located in the Outlying (OD) Zoning District. Approval of Special Permit and Site Plan Review applications are required for the construction of buildings larger than 1,500 square feet, accessory to a dwelling unit in the Outlying (OD) Zoning District pursuant to Section 4.8.1(h) of the Rowley Protective Zoning Bylaw. Specialized and fun Learn to Skate USA classes focus on the basic fundamentals that are important for shaping both hockey and figure skating skill development. Learn to Skate USA is endorsed by US Figure Skating, USA Hockey and US Speed Skating. Skaters have the chance to earn skill-badges throughout the series. Learn to play the harmonica! This workshop is for adults and children ages 9 and up. You will walk away knowing how to play a song! Mike and Beverly will teach you several simple songs and basic techniques, so you will be able to continue to learn on your own. Mike Rogers has been playing the harmonica since he was 15, and Mike and Beverly have been presenting these workshops for the past 30 years, from Maine to Georgia and throughout the Bahamas. Harmonicas donated by the Friends of the Library (yours to keep) or bring your own! Sign-ups are appreciated but not required, as space is limited.
