Modern banks such as Vereinigte Volksbank Griesheim-Weiterstadt
rely on flexible self-service. That’s why optimized cash
processes are absolutely critical. The bank is heavily frequented
by both private customers and local retailers and businesses,
who carry out thousands of transactions every month. That
makes it even more important that the bank’s self-service systems,
especially its cash recycling systems, are available 100%
of the time, every day. For this reason, the bank decided recently
in favor of the CINEO C4060 cash recycling system – and
is already an enthusiastic fan of its high availability.

Vereinigte Volksbank Griesheim Weiterstadt,
which recently won an award
for the innovative branch concept of its
VR Finanzshop, is counting on Wincor
Nixdorf‘s new CINEO system generation
to optimize its cash processes.
The experience after the first weeks of
operation show best performance.
The new customer favorite
„We also received good feedback from
many of our customers, who perceive
the system as ‚super fast‘,“ says
Petermann and goes on to note that
this is particularly remarkable since the
introduction of the new device was not
communicated to the public in any way.
According to Petermann, only experts
would be able to distinguish the new
wall-mounted self-service system from
the existing systems. Only once has
the cash recycling system gone out of
service, and that was when it detected
a counterfeit banknote during a deposit
transaction and shut down in compliance
with its own configuration.

High availability of self-service systems
in general and the CINEO C4060
cash recycling system in particular
is extremely important to the bank.
The system‘s location in the customer
foyer of the main branch in Griesheim
is highly frequented both by consumers
and numerous businesses. Some 1,500
deposits per month with a deposit
volume of 1.6 million euros stand in
contrast to 2,000 withdrawals with
a volume of just half a million euros.
In other words, in terms of volume
deposits outstrip withdrawals several
times over. Cash recycling means
that intervals between time-intensive
cash replenishment and removal are
extended and the cash cycle optimized
right from the start.
Branch employees now handle cash
only in the rarest of cases. The bank

went through a very rigorous conversion
to assisted/self-service about
eight years ago, and today cash is
only available in emergency safes. But
that means the demands on both the
availability and security of the bank’s
self-service solutions are very high. In
terms of security, Petermann feels the
bank is “on the safe side” with CINEO.
Features such as Optical Security Guard
and the latest anti-skimming module
prevent manipulation effectively.
Optimizing cash logistics
„Our clearly defined business goal is to
make good use of this surplus deposit
volume and further optimize our cash
logistics,“ says Petermann, who attests
the CINEO system generation and its
intelligent cassettes a high degree of
process automation potential for intrabank
cash logistics.
Once all the self-service systems in
the branches have been replaced with
CINEO technology, the intelligent standard
cassettes will enable surplus cash
from automated teller safes, deposit and
recycling systems to be used in CINEO
cash dispensers, for example.
One step towards the future
Dietmar Petermann also sees future
potential in the possibility of using
cassettes that have been filled with
cash in the automated POS systems of
retailers to replenish the bank‘s cash
dispensers. After all, since 2009, Volksbank
is the only financial institution to
run a branch at the Loop 5 shopping
center, which is home to 170 retailers
and other companies offering their
products and services. Initial discussions
with retailers at Loop 5 have
already taken place.
In June this year, VR Finanzshop –
conveniently located along the A5
highway and within the catchment
area of the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main
