BLUE STAR ACQUIRES RH OFFSHORE
STAR Group’s BlueStar has reached
an agreement to acquire RH
Offshore, a subsidiary of Radio
Holland Netherlands.
With the acquisition, BlueStar
will be able to ensure its customers
continuity and the timely
realisation of projects now and in
the future by providing experienced
offshore specialists and services.
“BlueStar is investing in a highquality
pool of experienced offshore
specialists, which is fully in line
with STAR Group’s investment
programme. RH Offshore’s stellar
reputation was one of the reasons
for the takeover. We expect to
continue growing,” said Sil Hoeve,
CEO of STAR Group.
Maarten Post, COO of Radio
Holland Group, said: “It is with full
confidence that Radio Holland
transfers its RH Offshore business
unit to STAR Group. STAR Group
has a well-established presence in
the market: it is an organisation
with a proven track record in
realising quick growth. This is what
RH Offshore needs. In line with our
strategy, it allows us to concentrate
on our core business: selling and
maintaining navigation and
communication systems, as well as
developing our Global Service
Network.”
STAR Group established
BlueStar in January 2018 with the
aim of enhancing diversification in
the maritime and offshore sectors.
As of 1 July, RH Offshore will start
operating under the BlueStar label.
VIKING ESTABLISHES JAPAN SUBSIDIARY
Spurred on by a highly successful alliance with MOL Techno-Trade, and
recent government approvals for local liferaft assembly and supply, VIKING
is establishing its own local presence.
Having obtained Japanese government approval to supply liferafts to
Japanese-flagged vessels and carry out final assembly in the country,
leading maritime safety equipment and servicing provider VIKING Life-
Saving Equipment is establishing a local subsidiary and employing staff to
bring new value to Japanese shipowners and managers.
Heading up the new subsidiary is Yasin Kasa, who will transfer from his
present position in Singapore, as Senior Commercial Director for Viking in
Asia, to Tokyo. “Coming to work in Japan with a dedicated subsidiary is an
exciting step for VIKING,” commented Kasa. “It enables us, as a
manufacturer, to be even more attentive to the needs of this important
market.”
Top of the list for VIKING Japan is likely to be accelerating the adoption
of VIKING Shipowner Agreements. These global, all-in-one servicing
packages have been extremely successful around the globe and, helped by a
powerful business case for Japanese-flagged vessels, are set to simplify and
streamline safety compliance in Japanese waters and beyond.
QUEBEC PLOUGHS $188M
INTO DAVIE SHIPYARDS
The Administration of Canada’s
Quebec province is to inject a
CAN$188 million into the
Chantier Davie Shipyard to
refinance the conversion of the
Asterix containership into a
supply ship. The vessel is now
being leased by the Royal
Canadian Navy.
According to local media
outlet CBC, the investment adds
to the $300 million already
loaned to the yard from a private
banking consortium, led by JP
Morgan and Anchorage Capital.
Quebec Finance Minister
Carlos Leitão said in a statement
that the investment allows the
shipbuilder "to make bids on
other projects, so it can continue
to operate."
In January this year, the
converted Asterix, a Resolve-
Class Naval Support Ship,
completed sea trials and entered
full operational service with the
Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) and
Royal Canadian Air Force
(RCAF). Over 900 Canadian
companies participated in the
conversion.
