Employer Engagement at
University College Dublin
At the UCD Career Development Centre, our mission is to enable and empower
individuals to develop the skills, self-confidence and attitudes needed
to flourish in learning and work within a global economy. Our aim is to
proactively engage with employers and grow the number and range of internship and
graduate opportunities and provide UCD with intelligence on the graduate labour
market, recruitment and selection trends.
Our employer engagement strategy aims to develop a collaborative and partnership-based approach between
UCD Career Development Centre, employers and students. We achieve this by advising employers on strategies to
access students they are seeking, and on raising their profile on campus. We bring students and employers together
through a range of activities; such as recruitment fairs, skills workshops and presentations. Our Career and Skills
Consultants work with students at all stages facilitating career development sessions within the curriculum and
maintain close links with individual Colleges and Schools. We have a dedicated Employer Engagement Team that can
help you work through your recruitment process.
Developing a relationship with us allows you to build your reputation as an employer of choice, promote
employment opportunities and form collaborative relationships with academic staff. Please contact the Employer
Engagement team for any queries – oonagh.sweeney@ucd.ie or careersevents@ucd.ie.
UCD Advantage Award
To further support students’ development and employability,
we are delighted to announce the UCD Advantage Award. UCD
Advantage recognises the skills students develop through
participation in Co-Curricular activities such as sports, societies
and volunteering. Students must reflect on how they have
developed, considering all aspects of their experience from
what they feel they did well and what they learned to where
they could improve in the future. You may begin to see UCD
Advantage listed on CV’s and job applications.
Advantage requires students to evidence their development through
reflection across four key themes in line with UCD Strategy:
• Personal and Professional Development
• UCD and the Wider Community
• Cultural Engagement
• Health and Wellbeing
Marketing and Promotion
We extensively promote employer activity on campus via our
online portal CareersConnect, direct emails to students, posters/
flyers/UCD events calendar, fair guides, social media channels and
through our academic contacts in the Schools. We have over 13,000
followers on Facebook, 6000 on Twitter and 500+connections on
UCD Internship Programmes
UCD has an extensive range of programmes across all colleges, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level,
that include an internship as an integrated part of student study. This provides a valuable opportunity for
organisations [large and small, commercial, NGO’s or not for profit entities, etc.] to draw from a talented
pool of students at an early stage in their careers. Organisations that provide internship opportunities to UCD
students gain positively from the experience:
• Interns can be assessed for their potential to fill future positions.
• Students can be assigned to undertake specific tasks or work projects as needed.
• Students bring new and updated skills and fresh ideas to the workplace.
• Engagement with UCD increases the potential to develop linkages and collaborations across other areas within
the University.
The Calendar for Internship Programmes opposite depicts the range of programmes with integrated internships
across the six colleges in UCD. In each case the availability of students is highlighted. In a number of cases, where
student interns from a group of related programmes are available to hosts at the same time, the programmes
are identified as a programme group. These groups are listed separately here: a breakdown of the individual
programmes that form part of a group is provided.
