2008 – 2012 Habilitation (habil., in process) Exercise Science & Neuroscience
Research focus
Thesis:”Brain activity in different conditions in Sports and Exercise Research”
Exercise Science and Motor Neuroscience
I am the director of the Exercise & Brain Laboratory at the University of Paderborn. Research conducted in the
Exercise & Brain Lab focuses on understanding the fundamentals and influencing factors of the control of human
movement. Theory and practice in motor behavior needs to be constrained on sensorimotor control, a dynamic
interaction of the sensation of sensory stimuli, the processing in the CNS and the motor output. Specifically, I am
interested in the brain-behavior relationship and the role of sensory information in goal-directed movements and
postural control in sports performance and musculoskeletal rehabilitation.
Teaching
Creative and mobile learning environment
As a teacher it is my duty to guide in the learning process. Therefore creating a strong basic theoretical
foundation is important. My focus is to create an environment where students feel free to explore the subject
matter from various angles to develop ideas, definitions, models and applications. I believe in experimental
learning and the "field-trip" philosophy in which information is presented in a hands-on fashion and use
technical advances to provide the students with additional material (“blended learning”).
