The verdict: Tucked away at the tranquil Desert Palm resort,<br />
approximately 25 minutes from DIFC, is Samana Spa. We<br />
rarely visit that side of town and heading past Dragon Mart on<br />
a bright sunny day, felt like we were escaping the humdrum of<br />
city life for a relaxed getaway. After slipping into our robes in<br />
the couple’s suite, the experience began with a 30-minute<br />
soothing aromatherapy bath to calm the mind, ignite our<br />
senses with a blend of aromas, and soften the skin for the<br />
treatment ahead. Once done, we soaked our feet in warm<br />
water while refreshing ourselves with a cool lime sorbet. A<br />
quick scrub and off to the beds we went for a 30-minute body<br />
scrub. Guests can choose between a salt scrub or hydrating<br />
express facial – we chose the former to slough off dead skin<br />
cells. Besides, it’s a great intro session to men who skip the<br />
exfoliation process at home. The oil and salt fusion is scrubbed<br />
onto skin in circular motions, exfoliating it to reveal soft and<br />
silky skin post shower. The entire package is customisable, and<br />
you can opt to skip the bath, choose a 30-minute scrub and a<br />
90-minute massage, if you please.<br />
The customised massage commences from your legs and<br />
feet, where the therapist spends around 20 minutes,<br />
tackling every stressed muscle with her elbows and long<br />
arm-strokes. Once your legs feel light and ache-free, she<br />
moves over to the back, neck and shoulders; the region in<br />
need of extra attention. The therapist went along either<br />
sides of the spine, with her elbow pushed deep to move<br />
away any tension from the mid-and lower-back. This<br />
movement took place several times before the shoulder<br />
and upper back were rubbed with swift movements to<br />
quickly dissipate knots. The massage carries on to the<br />
arms and finally the most incredible scalp and facial<br />
massage to relax tight muscles in the temples, boost<br />
circulation all over the face, and allow oil to be better<br />
absorbed by our pores and hair follicles.<br />
