Roses,
roses all
the way?
Your flowers are among your most important wedding
accessories, but stunning arrangements don’t have to break the
bank. So here are some top tips to help you make the most of
your budget.
Stretch your cash
As much as you love those calla lilies, roses and orchids, these flowers do
tend to be expensive. If your budget is tight, have these quality flowers
included, but make them go a lot further with other complementary flowers
and a great choice of foliage.
We all love topiary trees, pomanders and sculpted designs, but these
arrangements take a lot of work and a huge quantity of flowers to fill.
Expect to double your flower budget if you must have these, but don’t feel
they are your only option.
Let your florist know your ideas and the chances are they can come up with
something as perfect, but at half the cost.
And remember, as any florist will confirm, if you’re getting married on or
near Valentine’s Day or Mothers Day be prepared, your flowers will cost
twice as much as demand is much higher.
Double the effect
Why not use table mirrors to reflect the table centrepieces? This way the
mirror reflects the arrangement, making the eye think the bouquet is much
bigger. Mirrors also allow the light to lift the arrangements, which makes
them much more visible when you walk into the reception room – just what
you want for that ‘wow’ factor.
Alternate arrangements
A lavish table centrepiece that would be perfect for the reception may look
expensive, but don’t let it put you off – why not alternate between two
designs across all of the tables? A smaller, but equally fitting arrangement,
could go on every other table, accompanied by some well chosen candles.
This could take a third off the cost of these arrangements in one hit.
Bring on a substitute
Many people have a favourite flower. But the demand of a much-loved
bloom in a preferred colour can push up the cost. Why not discuss with
your florist the possibility of other flowers that would be suitable? There are
many flowers that have a similar appearance but at a fraction of the cost.
