FALCONS TAKE THE COURT

In Fisher Volleyball’s inaugural season, the
team’s cohesiveness was immediate, which helped
them find success more often than not. From day
one, Head Coach Melanie Appleman and Assistant
Coach Clara Concalves prioritized a strong team
culture. Their emphasis on creating a positive environment
and teaching integrity in sport contributed
to a groundbreaking first season.
Early morning practices were filled with motivation
by the ten athletes who formed Fisher’s first
volleyball roster. Now, with a winning record of
10-8, the team is on track to be a force in the
conference.

The 2018 Dennis Bistany Character Award was
given to co-captain junior, Natie Manalo ‘19 (Psychology).
From the first day to the last, Manalo has
consistently ranked on the leader board of the
Association of Independent Institutions. She led
in aces per set as well as in digs among the AII and
NIAC conference. Manalo was joined by co-captain
Cynthia Huerta ‘20 (Psychology) as NIAC First
Team recipients.
Manalo and Huerta are just two examples of the
high caliber athletics on the team. The inaugural
season players, under the strong leadership provided
by Head Coach Appleman, have built a solid foundation,
providing a framework of integrity and success.
The team’s hard work, dedication, and passion for
the sport and for academics truly captures the Fisher
College spirit.
