Deakin University. We aim to help and encourage
students with the daily practicing of Islam. Club
activities include seminars, daily prayers, Friday
Jumma lectures and prayers, congregational
gatherings and social events.
Membership is not limited to Muslim students;
it also welcomes non-Muslim students who are
interested in increasing their understanding of
the teachings of Islam. With Islam’s vision for
peace amongst all the people and the strength
of brotherhood, clubs are trying to proclaim
the Grace of Our Lord. It is a society where the
spirit of the community is upheld. The aim of
the clubs are to create awareness of Islam on
campus, help Muslim students maintain their
Islamic identity and last but not least, help create
a lasting bond of brotherhood and sisterhood
amongst Muslim students.
We have a collection of books, leaflets and
tapes in our library, as well as free literature for
distribution. Depending on demand, we hold talks
and study circles, which are a good way to learn
and to get to know each other.
Depending on your involvement and enthusiasm,
we organize various activities throughout the
year. Social activities such as sports, trips,
lunches, barbeques, intervarsity quizzes are also
held.
Keep an eye out on the notice boards and Eyeball
for upcoming events and activities. Also don’t
forget to join the mailing list. The clubs aims to
provide a platform to Muslim students and cater
to their individual, social and spiritual needs.

Prayer Rooms at Deakin
There are Prayer Rooms at the following
campuses for use by Muslim students.
They are equipped with ablution facilities, prayer
mats and slippers. They also offer refrigeration,
microwave and tea/coffee facilities. Security
codes to access prayer rooms on each campus
can be obtained from Deakin International, the
Division of Student Life or Campus Security. The
prayer rooms are managed by the respective
Islamic Association on the relevant campuses.

Melbourne Campus at Toorak
An All Faiths Prayer Room is located in Building
B. Contact an ISA or Manager, International
Student Support at Deakin International for more
information. Students should note that washing
facilities are not present in the All Faith Prayer
Room.
Halal food at Deakin
The Deakin cafeterias listed opposite offer one
halal meal per day, which may be red meat or
chicken. Signs are displayed at the cafeteria
indicating halal meals; please ask cafeteria staff
to clarify if it is not clear. Vegetarian options are
also usually available. It is the responsibility of
each Muslim individual to check and verify that
the meals are halal.
