<strong>Intro</strong>duction <strong>to</strong> the <strong>Leadership</strong> <strong>Journeys</strong>:<br />

It’s Your Planet, Love it!<br />

State: All grade-level <strong>Journeys</strong> in this series feature:<br />

2. Extra activities <strong>and</strong> fun ideas<br />

Directions for “Have you ever…”<br />

Have volunteers gather in the center <strong>of</strong> the room.<br />

Given a statement, participants choose either a yes<br />

or no response. Participants will move <strong>to</strong> the left if their answer is “no” <strong>and</strong> <strong>to</strong> the right if<br />

their answer is “yes.” (If space is limited, have them raise their right or left h<strong>and</strong> instead.)<br />

Below are statements taken from the It’s Your Planet, Love it! Journey Series. The<br />

activity leader says “Have you ever” then reads each statement.<br />

Have you ever:<br />

1. Completed a Clover Project?<br />

2. Read the Travel Near, Travel Far s<strong>to</strong>ry?<br />

3. Taken girls on a walk in nature <strong>to</strong> see seeds?<br />

Journey Awards<br />

All <strong>Leadership</strong> <strong>Journeys</strong> give girls a chance <strong>to</strong> earn awards. Awards are patches <strong>to</strong> be worn on<br />

the vest or sash. There are companion jewelry pieces available as keepsakes - these are fun<br />

not <strong>of</strong>ficial pieces.<br />

Review the awards girls can earn within this Journey. Using the level specific Journey books,<br />

have each person locate the award <strong>and</strong> share with the group what the award entails.<br />

Daisy: Between Earth <strong>and</strong> Sky<br />

• The Blue Bucket – Encourages girls <strong>to</strong> become aware <strong>of</strong> their feelings <strong>and</strong> the<br />

feelings <strong>of</strong> those around them helping <strong>to</strong> develop good relations skills.<br />

• The Firefly Award – <strong>Girl</strong>s recognize <strong>and</strong> develop their skills as well as use a skill <strong>to</strong><br />

educate <strong>and</strong> inspire others.<br />

• The Clover Award – <strong>Girl</strong>s team up <strong>to</strong> protect a natural treasure in their region.<br />

Brownie: Wonders <strong>of</strong> Water<br />

• LOVE Water – Encourages girls <strong>to</strong> become aware <strong>of</strong> the many ways they use <strong>and</strong><br />

enjoy water.<br />

• SAVE Water – <strong>Girl</strong>s team up <strong>and</strong> speak up as advocates <strong>to</strong> protect water or keep it<br />

clean in their community.<br />

• SHARE Water – <strong>Girl</strong>s create a big ripple by sharing their efforts.<br />

• WOW! – This award culminates the Journey <strong>and</strong> symbolizes the powerful changes<br />

they brought <strong>to</strong> their community.<br />

Junior: Get Moving!<br />

• Energize Award – <strong>Girl</strong>s make an energy pledge, check out how others are tackling<br />

energy issues, <strong>and</strong> participate in energy activities.<br />

• Investigate Award – <strong>to</strong>gether, girls learn about energy usage <strong>and</strong> how <strong>to</strong> improve<br />

their energy efficiency.<br />

• Innovate Award – <strong>Girl</strong>s identify energy issues in their community <strong>and</strong> work <strong>to</strong> resolve<br />

them.<br />

Cadette: Breathe!<br />

• Aware – <strong>Girl</strong>s learn about the air around them <strong>and</strong> how they can increase this<br />

awareness.<br />

• Alert – <strong>Girl</strong>s create an Air Care Team <strong>to</strong> educate <strong>and</strong> inspire others <strong>to</strong> care for the air<br />

around them.<br />

• Affirm – <strong>Girl</strong>s look at the impact their actions are having on the air quality in their<br />

community.<br />

Senior: Sow What?<br />

• The Harvest Award – <strong>Girl</strong>s develop leadership skills <strong>and</strong> learn how <strong>to</strong> st<strong>and</strong> up for<br />

what they believe in.<br />

Ambassador: Justice<br />

• The Sage Award: <strong>Girl</strong>s participate in activities that develop their underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>of</strong><br />

environmental justice. Their commitment <strong>and</strong> ability <strong>to</strong> be judicious <strong>and</strong> reminds<br />

them <strong>of</strong> the importance <strong>of</strong> healing.<br />
