‘FETE AT THE FIELD’ 2018
Page-31
On Sunday 6th May, the annual Fisher Fete took place. However, this year it had
a little revamp! With two new leaders, Janet and Lisa , the JFA (John Fisher Parent
Association) were supported by many parents in making this vital event happen.
The event has historically raised significant funds for the school which help
to fund resources and opportunities for our students. This year we took a record
amount, ending with a profit of £12,300. A fantastic result. (You can find out later
in this magazine how the money has been used to support the school).
The weather was glorious for what would turn out to be a wonderful day, bringing
together over 2,500 people over the course of the afternoon. With a range of
inflatables, beer tent, hot air balloon and food stalls, the atmosphere was vibrant
and it was nice to see so many parents/carers supporting their school.
The event was moved to Plough Lane this year to allow the first ever ‘JFS All-
Stars’ rugby match to take place. The ‘All Stars’ rugby match was developed by
Old Boy, K. Irving, and involved over 40 old boys of the school. Sponsored by Jemca,
Croydon, the match showcased some of the best players to have graduated
from the school, including Kieran Treadwell (Ulster and Ireland) who undertook
the very important role as ‘touch judge’!
The match itself saw #TeamToyota narrowly lose to #TeamLexus in a fast tempo
game. Man of the Match, P. Jones (Former 1st XV Captain and current captain of
PJFRFC) said, “This was a brilliant event. To see so many old boys come back to watch
and support really shows the strength of the school and the passion for rugby. The
current students are part of a very special school that has tradition and values at it’s
heart.”
A massive thank you to the JFA for
organising such a fabulous event and
raising vital funds for the school.
Special thanks must be given to Jemca, Croydon, who sent down some
cars for the day, including the rather wonderful Lexus LC (Below)
