I feel it is important that each player and parent
understand my philosophy on certain FAQs
What determines playing time?
I base playing time on the 3As approach in this order:
Attendance: It is important to be on time and at every
practice. Due to the tight schedule, in service and
holidays that fall within the season. We need every
athlete at every practice and game. Only exceptions: Sick,
vacation or doctor’s appointment. These exceptions must
have a written and signed note by a parent or doctor to
be excusable. An excused absents will still limit your
playing time for the next game. Please contact me if you
cannot attend practice. Do not tell someone to tell me. If
you have a doctor’s appointment or vacation coming up
please tell me in advance. Unexcused absents will forfeit
your playing time for the next game.
Attitude: Bring a good attitude to practice every day!! Be
ready to play! We cannot allow any drama. You are there
to learn and play basketball. Please come with a
basketball mindset.
Ability: One’s natural assets, knowledge and experience.
Example: 2 players are practicing for 1 position. Player 1
has good attendance, good ability but a poor attitude.
Player 2 has good attendance, great attitude but not as
good ability, Player 2 will play in front of Player 1.
Other concerns that I believe are important are:
Being late for practice-for each minute you are late you
will run a lap which is up and back on the court. I believe
that if you are on time your late so please be ready 15
minutes before practice. You should be able to stretch
and prepare yourself at this time for practice.
Sportsmanship- it is extremely important that you
respect your teammates, coaches, referees,
administration, the other team ,staff and above all
yourself.
Basic Philosophy of Coaching:
1)Have Fun! If you aren’t having fun you shouldn’t be
playing
2)Learn! If you are having fun you can learn
3)Get Better! If you are having fun and learning you
can get better
4)Take Risks! If you are having fun, learning and
getting better you can take risks, which will make it
more fun to play. I want every player to get to a
point where they are not so worried about making
mistakes. If you are trying to make something
happen there are no mistakes.
I am looking forward to working with your daughter
and will do all I can to make this a solid learning
experience.
Thank you- Wally Bashaw
