CLASSES TAUGHT<br />
• Introduction to Sport Administration: An introductory course designed to provide an overview<br />
of the structure and functions of the sport industry in the United States. Students gain a<br />
basic knowledge of the role sports play in the United States as they pertain to collegiate and<br />
professional administrators. The effects of the media as well as the political and economic<br />
forces that influence them are also examined.<br />
• Orientation to Recreation and Sport Management: A prerequisite course for all Recreation and<br />
Sport Management majors in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences with a<br />
concentration in Recreation and Sport Management or Therapeutic Recreation. Elements<br />
covered in this course include general overviews of each concentration, developing resume<br />
building skills, introducing the importance of establishing networks within desired industries,<br />
and strategizing for academic development within specified concentrations.<br />

• Foundations of Sport Management. The course is an overview of the scope of the sport enterprise<br />
including why business is involved in sport and includes an overall evaluation of sport management<br />
as a profession. Students are encouraged to explore and prioritize skills and abilities for practical use<br />
in the sport industry.<br />
• Sport Marketing. Students are taught the fundamentals of marketing as they are applied to sport. The<br />
course integrates concepts from international marketing, finance, and corporate sponsorship in an<br />
effort to expose students to multiple facets of the industry. Examinations of contemporary issues are<br />
paramount in daily classroom discussions and are incorporated into a variety of lecture topics.<br />
• University of Miami Freshmen Experience Seminar: A course tailored to meet the needs of<br />
incoming freshmen at the University of Miami. The emphasis was placed on ensuring a base<br />
of knowledge on vital facets of a typical freshman at UM.<br />
• Physical Education Activity Program – Bowling. A developmental course introducing students to<br />
exercise and enhanced healthy lifestyles. This course focused on the techniques, skills, and<br />
rules of bowling. The purpose was for the students to gain an understanding and<br />
appreciation for physical activity so they would continue these activities in their everyday<br />
lives.<br />
• Physical Education Activity Program - Golf: The purpose of this class was for students to<br />
become comfortable swinging a golf club, understanding different swing techniques, and a<br />
broad overview of the nuances of the game.<br />
• Physical Education Activity Program – Racquetball. This course emphasized on-court technique, rule-<br />
based instruction, and dynamics of etiquette related to racquetball.<br />
• Physical Education Activity Program - Soccer: A physical activity class dedicated to teaching students the<br />
fundamentals of soccer, team play, and an overview of the sport.<br />
• Physical Education Activity Program – Softball. The intent of this class was to give students an<br />
opportunity to develop skills, gain an understanding of the game, and participate in a team sport in<br />
ways that would benefit them in the future.<br />
