MOTORING TIPS
If you wish to drive on the Gold Coast you
must hold a current, valid driving licence issued
in the country in which you live. Carry it with
you at all times when driving. Vehicles travel on
the left side of the road.
Make sure you always carry a current road map
and before you take off on your trip please
take the time to familiarise yourself with the
local streets and area and the speed limits
that apply.
All occupants of a vehicle must wear seatbelts
at all times and it is illegal to use a hand-held
mobile telephone when driving... Heavy fines
apply!
If you are riding a bicycle, moped, motor
scooter or a motorcycle, it is the law that you
wear a crash helmet.
Avoid drinking alcohol before driving and you
must not drive if your blood alcohol level is
0.05% or higher. Queensland has strict laws on
drinking and driving and the police do actively
enforce them.
In a built-up area, you should drive no faster
than 50 km/h unless there is a sign stating
otherwise. Give way to the right at unsigned
cross intersections. Obey the speed limit.
A STOP sign means all wheels of your vehicle
must come to a complete halt.
A u-turn is not allowed at a set of traffic lights
unless a sign states you can. Most of all share
the road safely and responsibly.
In an emergency, phone 000 for police, fire or
ambulance.
