Northumberland County Council<br />
has given a grant of £50,000 to<br />
the Northumberland Community<br />
Bank, a local financial cooperative<br />
that offers secure savings and<br />
affordable loans to anyone living<br />
or working in Northumberland.<br />
The community bank is a local,<br />
ethical alternative to high street<br />
banks and the council’s grant will<br />
help it to build up greater reserves<br />
which it can draw on to assist and<br />
support more local people in need.<br />
The bank offers small loans with<br />
structured, affordable repayment<br />
plans tailored to individuals needs.<br />
The loans can be taken out by<br />
anyone but are particularly helpful<br />
in assisting local micro business to<br />
grow and preventing people under<br />
<br />
credit cards or turning to highinterest<br />
loan sharks.<br />
The bank also offers savings schemes<br />
for children, adults and organisations<br />
which are protected by the Financial<br />
Services Compensation Scheme so<br />
your money is always safe.<br />
