Career planning workshop for<br />

BD nationals held in Hague<br />

DHAKA : Embassy of Bangladesh, the<br />

Hague in association with<br />

BrainChain, organized a career<br />

planning workshop for Bangladeshi<br />

students and job seekers on Saturday,<br />

reports UNB.<br />

BrainChain is an association of<br />

Bangladeshi professionals who are<br />

successfully working in Dutch<br />

companies.<br />

To prepare Bangladesh origin<br />

students better, share the challenges<br />

and opportunities of the Dutch job<br />

market and firsthand experience of<br />

facing job interviews, the Embassy<br />

organized the workshop for the first<br />

time.<br />

Every year a good number of<br />

students come to different<br />

universities of the Netherlands for<br />

higher studies, said the Embassy on<br />

Sunday.<br />

After successful completion of<br />

study, they get one year grace period<br />

to secure a job in the Netherlands<br />

which will lead to visa extension and<br />

successful continuation of the job for<br />

couple of years will ultimately lead to<br />

the citizenship.<br />

Embassy officials, members of the<br />

Embassy family, BrainChain members<br />

and 13 Bangladesh nationals, who are<br />

preparing themselves for job,<br />

participated in the workshop.<br />

US wishes voters a<br />

peaceful and festive<br />

day in city polls<br />

DHAKA : US Embassy in Dhaka on Sunday wished<br />

Bangladeshi voters in Barishal, Rajshahi and Sylhet a<br />

"peaceful and festive day" as they are set to cast their votes in<br />

the three city corporations election billed for Monday,<br />

reports UNB.<br />

The Embassy in a post shared on its official Facebook page<br />

said a peaceful and festive day will help all who want to<br />

participate freely exercise their democratic right in choosing<br />

their leaders in the city corporation elections.<br />

The Embassy of Netherlands in Dhaka in a separate<br />

Facebook post said Bangladesh has come a very long way in<br />

its development.<br />

The economic and social progress of the country should be<br />

supported and can be further enhanced by strong, inclusive<br />

and representative institutions at all levels, said the Embassy.<br />

"Free, fair and inclusive elections are a basic condition for<br />

any credible democracy," the Facebook post reads.<br />

three Awami League mayoral candidates in Barishal,<br />

Rajshahi and Sylhet city corporations' polls.<br />

"I can quite confidently say that in Barishal and Rajshahi<br />

Awami League will win by a landslide. In Sylhet we are<br />

slightly ahead, but it is too close to call," he said in a Facebook<br />

Silver ornaments, phensidyl<br />

seized at Benapole<br />

BENAPOLE : Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)<br />

seized silver ornaments and phensidyl syrup smuggled from<br />

India in Amrakhali area here on Sunday morning, reports<br />

UNB.<br />

Tipped off, a BGB team conducted a drive in the area in the<br />

morning and seized the Indian contraband items, said<br />

Subedar Monir Hossain, company commander of BGB<br />

Benapole port. However, no one was arrested in this<br />

connection, he added.<br />

One held with Yaba<br />

in Chattogram<br />

CHATTOGRAM : Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)<br />

arrested a suspected drug trader and recovered 36,000 Yaba<br />

tablets from an oil tanker in Bottoli area in the port city on<br />

Saturday night.<br />

The arrestee was identified as Ismail, <strong>30</strong>, reports UNB.<br />

Being informed that Yaba tablets were being smuggled<br />

concealing in an oil tanker of Meghna Petroleum, a team of<br />

Rab conducted drive and arrested the suspected drug trader<br />

around 8:<strong>30</strong> pm, said Assistant Superintendent of Police<br />

Mimtanur Rahman, also the assistant director of Rab-7.<br />

Later, the team recovered the Yaba tablets from the oil<br />

tanker. They also seized the tanker, he added.<br />

Deputy Professor Dr. Shafiqul Alam Chowdhury, Director of the Hospital Brigadier General AKM<br />

Nasir Uddin, General Secretary of the Teachers Association, Dr. Debesh Chandra Talukder, Dr Abul<br />

Hayat Manik, Dr. Shahriar Nabi Shakil, Associate Professor, Dr. Proddut Kumar Saha, Dr. Saiful<br />

Islam Parvez, Dr. Tanmoy Saha, Dr. Simon and Dr. Saad Ahmed Tonmoy addressed a discussion<br />

after the rally.<br />
