A STUDY ON DIGITAL IMAGE PROCESSING INBRAIN TUMOR DETECTION INTRODUCTION SINDHUJA& P. M. SONIA PRIYA The aim o digital image processing is to improve the pictorial information for human interpretation; and processing image data for storage transmission, and representation for autonomous machine perception. It is the use of computer algorithms to perform image processing on digital images. It has many advantages over analog image processing. It allows a much wider range of algorithms to be applied to the input data and can avoid problems such as the build-up-of noise and signal distortion during processing. It may be modeled in the form of multidimensional systems. Image processing mainly include the following steps: Importing the image via image acquisition tools; Analysing and manipulating the image; Output in which result can be altered image or a report which is based on analysing that image. Some techniques which are used in digital image processing include: Image editing Image restoration Independent component analysis Linear filtering Partial different equations Pixelation 97
APPLICATION- OVERVIEW The Brain Tumor is affecting many people worldwide. It is not only limited with the old age people but also detected in the early age. Brain tumor is the abnormal growth of cell inside the brain cranium which limits the functioning of the brain. Early detection the brain tumor is possible with the advancement of machine learning and image processing. In medical image processing is the most challenging and emerging field today. This describes the methodology of detection & extraction of brain tumor from pattern’s MRI scan image of the brain. This method incorporates with some noise removal functions, segmentation and morphological operations which are the basic concept of image processing. Detection and extraction of tumor from MRI scan images of the brain is done by using MATLAB software. MRI Imaging plays an important role in brain tumor for analysis, diagnosis and treatment planning. It’s helpful to doctor for determine the previous steps of brain tumor. Brain tumor detections are using MRI images is a challenging task, because the complex structure of the brain. Brain tumor can be detected by begin or malignant type. The benign being non-cancerous and malignant is cancerous. Malignant tumour is classified into two types; primary and secondary tumour benign tumor is less harmful than malignant. The basic idea is to develop application software to detect the presence of brain tumor in MRI images. We are using image processing techniques to detect exact position of tumor. TECHNOLOGY-USED There are various medical imaging techniques like x-ray, computed tomography, positron emission tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, are available for tumor detection. The MRI is the most commonly used modality for brain tumor growth imaging and location detection due to its higher resolution. 1) To improve the performance and reduce the complexity involves in the image processing, we have investigated Berkeley wavelet transformation based brain tumor segmentation. 2) To improve the accuracy and quality rate of the support vector machine based classifier, relevant features are extracted from each segmented tissue. 98
