Life as an Early
Childhood Educator
Deciding on a career in early childhood education is most
often described as rewarding, satisfying and enjoyable. But
it can be more than that, it can be life fulfilling.
Quality early childhood education experiences are vital
in developing children’s health, wellbeing and learning.
Socialisation and interaction with peers, developing
cognitive skills to think and problem solve and gaining
skills in early literacy and numeracy are all impacted,
effecting future outcomes in formal education.
The largest group of early childhood professionals,
educators work directly with children in kindergartens,
long day care, occasional care, family day care and
outside school hours care services. In Victoria, the
minimum qualification required is a Certificate III in Early
Childhood Education and Care with articulation options
through to early childhood teaching degrees.

Parkville is a major education; research and

On-the-Job
Work Experience
All students undertaking a Certificate III or
Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care
must complete a minimum number of hours
of mandatory practical work experience within
early learning centres to fulfil their qualification
requirements.
Traditionally, students have had to secure their
own placement to complete their practical
experience quotas, with minimum hours of work
placement - sometimes at the end of their training.
For many international students this can be a
daunting process with no quality screening of the
placement venue undertaken.
ZOI's Work Placement Program is unique and
considered effective by several premium Early
Learning Centres.

placement program offering best practice applied
learning opportunities across all our courses. We have
partnered with Melbourne’s premier early learning
centres to supply each ZOI student with a prearranged
work experience placement.
Ongoing work placement training combined with ZOI's
quality classroom instructor led and hands-on learning
by our passionate trainers enables students to excel in
their studies and be well prepared for their careers.
As an added value, ZOI offers more than twice the
minimum work placement hours to its students,
ensuring they gain extensive real world experience.

Credit Transfers &
Higher Education
Students who complete the Certificate III may then enrol
into the CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education
and Care. Students who enrol into the Diploma after
completing the Certificate III with ZOI Education will
receive 19 unit credits into the Diploma.
Alternatively, students may enrol directly into ZOI's
Diploma program and obtain both their Certificate III and
their Diploma qualifications.
Students may also go on to study other related higher
level qualifications such as:
- CHC52015 Diploma of Community Services
- A Bachelor of Education (Early Years or Primary)
- Masters in Education or Teaching
(following completion of Bachelor of Education)

In the first year of this 2 year stand alone course you
will learn to nurture children’s development by enhancing

Student Support Services
OVERSEAS STUDENT HEALTH COVER
As an international student, it is a condition of your
student visa that you have Overseas Student Health Cover
(OSHC) for the entire duration of your stay in Australia.
Your OSHC will help you pay for any medical or hospital
care you may need while you’re studying and it will
contribute towards the cost of most prescription medicines
or ambulance services in an emergency.
ZOI can take the stress out of sorting out your cover. We
have affiliated health cover partners who can organise
your OSHS so you are covered from arrival.

ORIENTATION PROGRAM
After your arrival, you will be provided with information to
assist you with adjusting to study and life in Australia.
Our step-by-step Orientation Program will assist you to
settle into living and studying in Parkville, fully explore
the services provided by ZOI Education and complete all
official documentation for enrollment.
STUDENT ACCOMMODATION
Many students choose to arrange long-term housing prior
to arriving in Melbourne, however if you prefer to wait
until you arrive, we recommend you arrange temporary
accommodation before departing home.
For most students, temporary accommodation is needed
for a few nights before your long-term housing becomes
available, even if it was secured early.
Keep in mind that if you have not pre-arranged long-term
housing, you may need temporary accommodation for a
longer period.
If needed, our team can help you to locate temporary
housing while you search for something specific to
your needs.
STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES
ZOI's student support team are committed to supporting
our students with their queries, any special needs or
simply to provide them assistance whilst living in
Australia. They are also instrumental in arranging
activities to ensure students feel they are embraced and
cared for, whilst studying at our education centre.
