WHERE TO GO WHEN
SOUTHERN AFRICA
Botswana | Lesotho | Malawi | Mozambique | Namibia |
South Africa | Swaziland | Zambia + Zimbabwe
The region is prone to frequent droughts + uneven rainfall distribution with 2
distinct seasons - a wet season roughly from November to April, + a dry season
from May to October. Ayear-round destination, most popular for game viewing
is winter (May-September). In summer temperatures reach 30-40°C and often
coincides with the rainy season.
EASTERN AFRICA
Kenya | Rwanda | Tanzania | Uganda
Best travelled during the dry months, as game tends to congregate around the
limited water sources; the long rains are from early April to early June, and
short rains from late November through December. Temperatures are most
comfortable July + Augustspectacular wildlife sightings in the world. Almost 2
million animals roam the plains of East Africa + their movements are governed
by the rains and so predicting their location can be a gamble.
All passengers require a valid passport with at least 6 months validity remaining
as of date of entry + any onward countries.
Visa requirements vary from country to country. It is the responsibility of the
traveller to ensure that any requirements are met. Check with your Travel Agent
or the Consulate of the country you are visiting.
OTHER HOTELS, RESORTS,
VILLAS + SIGHTSEEING
Via our partners, we have access to an extensive range of sightseeing + touring
throughout Africa. If what you are looking for is not featured in this brochure,
please ask your Travel Agent, as in most cases we will be able to assist.
THE MIGRATION
Photograph © Shripal Daphtary, Unplash
Seeing the wildebeest migration in East
Africa is one of the most spectacular wildlife
sightings in the world. Almost 2 million
animals roam the plains of East Africa + their
movements are governed by the rains, so
predicting their location be a gamble.
DECEMBER-APRIL the migration spreads
out over the southern plains of the Seregeti.
This area is easily accessible from the
centrally located Seronera.
MAY-AUGUST the migration moves
through the western corridor + into the
Ikoma + Grometi Wildlife Management
Areas. These are outside of the Serengeti but
as there are no fences the wildlife can + do
move around freely.
SEPTEMBER-END NOVEMBER the
migration crosses into the Masai Mara in
Kenya. As this is a small area, the wildlife
tends to be very concentrated.
MOBILE CAMP IN THE SERENGETI
Six Days in the Serengeti
from $5,700 a 4 4 4 4 4
6 DAYS | 5 NIGHTS SUGGESTED ITINERARY ONLY | ENQUIRE ABOUT STAY/PAY DEALS
MODE INDEPENDENT
If you want to spend your time in one country only, seeing as much of the bush as possible, this
is the ideal way to do so. It involves 3 nights staying in Serengeti Bushtops + 2 nights in Roving
Bushtops, with staff exceeding every expectation, under canvas in the most stunning tents
imaginable with an extraordinary panoramic view of nature at its best. A suggested itinerary
follows - of course you can add another day or two in the Serengeti, perhaps during the
migration, in whichever camp provides the best access to the herds. The choice is yours.
DAY 1: Fly in from Arusha or Kilimanjaro
to Kogatende Airstrip (in the north western
Serengeti - own account). As soon as you step
from the plane you are in the heart of the
+ spotter towards camp where lunch prepares
you for a late afternoon game drive across
the Moru Kopjes. Your ranger can help you
plan the next few days, recommending where
T A N Z A N I A + K E N Y A GETTING HERE
Bush: the airstrip lies by the Mara river. Game
is abundant as you drive to the camp, where a
leisurely lunch awaits. Time to relax in your
luxurious tent, or in the pool - or perhaps
enjoy a massage on your deck. Or simply gaze
outwards to the surrounding bush. Join a late
afternoon drive, with a sundowner. (L D)
DAY 2: After breakfast spend an entire day
exploring the Serengeti NP. A sumptuous
buffet lunch in the wilds of nature punctuates
a day spent in watchful anticipation + delighted
awe. Then comes the wonderful prospect
of returning to camp + a steaming hot tub,
in which to enjoy perhaps a glass of chilled
champagne. It’s the ideal way to wind down
before dinner. (B L D)
DAY 3: You might choose to dedicate the
morning of to a balloon safari (you will need
to have pre-booked - own account). Having
sailed over the bush + its herds, you wind down
over champagne in the Serengeti, before
heading back to camp to catch up on sleep. In
the afternoon, relax in camp, before an evening
game drive + sundowner. (B L D)
DAY 4: Head to Kogatende after breakfast,
spotting game en route. After a short flight to
Seronera (own account), travel with your ranger
the game is likely to be at its most abundant
depending on the time of year. (B L D)
DAY 5: As you have your own dedicated
ranger + vehicle, you are in total control of your
agenda. If you want to mix game viewing
with relaxation, you could choose an early
morning game drive + bush breakfast
followed by a return to camp for lunch + a
restful afternoon, then an evening drive.
Alternatively you could spend the entire day in
the bush, with a picnic lunch + another day in
nature’s wildest expanses. (B L D)
DAY 6: Your decision to go on an early
morning game drive, with breakfast in the
bush or in camp or simply to snooze. A final
game drive as we transfer you to Seronera +
the flight to Arusha, Kilimanjaro, or perhaps
Zanzibar + towards your final destination. (B)
