Delabole Branch of The Royal British Legion Our Branch is now busy making plans for forthcoming events in the autumn and I thought that now is the time to update you all on the agreed dates. On the 24th October our Branch is hosting the North Cornwall Group Meeting.Following brief reports from local branches we will be welcoming Martin Pelling,the Cornwall Membership Support Officer who will becoming along to update and discuss Legion matters.As this is an open meeting,why not join us to find out more about the work,help and support available through the Legion. Another date for your diary is our annual dinner to be be held at The Poldark Inn on the 12th October.Full details in next months Slate. During Remembrance weekend we will be celebrating 100 years to the end of WW1. Friday 9th November we will be commemorating at the War Memorial with the children from Delabole school. A two day exhibition will be staged at the Methodist Church on 10 th and 11th November.Any memorabilia you may have of family or friends who served in any of the wars, those who worked at home in our own country or any interesting memories of our village life will be appreciated.Brenda Burnard has agreed to help with this,so please have a word with her or any committee member. As part of the exhibition you will be able to view the swatch of poppies which has been created.We have had an excellent response to our appeal for the poppies,which have been knitted,crocheted and made from felt. A sincere thank you to all who have helped with this. On the Saturday morning we will be holding a coffee morning in the Sunday school room. Sunday sees the usual Remembrance commemoration at the War Memorial at 2.30pm, when a plaque will be unveiled,followed by a service,this year,at the Methodist Church. In the evening at 7.30 pm we welcome the Port Isaac Chorale to the chapel for a concert when a retiring collection will be taken for the Poppy Appeal. Thank you to Delabole Carnival Committee for agreeing to the branch having a stall at the recent pasty lunch and to Geoff and Malcolm who organised and manned the stall. We have recently heard that the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport has decided to add Delabole War Memorial to the List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. The Memorial is now listed at Grade 11. Our next committee meeting is on 18th September,7pm at The Poldark Inn and the 20th November will be our AGM. The Delabole Branch is always pleased to welcome new members to join us.If you are interested please have a ward with our membership secretary Andrew Stacey or come along to one of our meetings.
