oleil Magazine was founded
in 2017 with the hopes to
bring millennials together. Start
a wildfire of endless hunger to
absorb new talent. It started as
a fashion magazine but then
changed quickly to #unseen artists.
People who don’t follow
the trends and create for themselves.
Personally, Soleil is a
passion project of mine.
Everyday there is a new person
to meet and artist with a story.
Knock on our door to tell yours.
Unseen artists are the ones who
are at the corner of your eye but
you keep moving forward. Take
a minute to stop, observe and
listen to the stories that we tell.
We are truly excited to share this
with you all. If any of you know
amazing artists our 3rd issue will
be Gothic mixed with the great
Bram Stroker.

his second issue drove me
to get people to come out
and say things they weren’t
comfortable with. I thought about
confessions over and over again.
Going into 2018 was unexpected
and confusing. Maybe light was
shed on me about certain things.
There were things I had to come
to terms with. Things that had to
be spoken about openly even
though looking back it literally
tore me apart.
Making a magazine isn’t about
being the best Editor out there.
I’m flawed and that’s something
a lot of us don’t want to realize.
Soleil is a constant in my mind. I
wrote on Instagram a while ago
about how I’ve never felt like I
deserved what I’ve been given.
A lot of people ask me about my
name and where I come from. A
lot of times I shake people off because
it’s not something I always
want to talk about. I’ll confess
that I’m adopted, maybe some
don’t know that but I’ve always
known it. From the day I left the
orphanage I never looked back.

made from frustration with society
and how the world attempts
to mold us in Michaelangelos
when we want to be Van Goghs.
So many of us have told lies
and continue to not confront our

I started in 2012, while
attending University. I was that
kid at elementary school that
teachers sent to draw on the
board. And then I was introduced
to technical drawing,
and learned to draw volumes,
gears, mechanisms, and things
of that sort.
Later on I did some graphic
design in middle school, and I
got involved in some printing
projects just for fun. You know,
the place I live in is flooded with
art, so I was kind of inspired by
that, specially graphic propaganda,
which was and still is
very common. Although, during
most of that process, illustration
was still an unknown world
to me. I didn’t even know such
a career existed. In time I got to
explore that realm, and discovered
some fine illustrators from
back then.

more interested and fascinated
by the idea of drawing personal
concepts. I started with vectorial
illustration, mostly influenced by
pop art and such; bright colors,
funny concepts, blah blah. I think
those first frames are deeply
buried in Myspace, and only like
8 people ever saw them.

time, but it was a start. I kept
doing graphic design, and exploring
illustration at the same
time, but I had to pause as I entered
engineering school.
The place I live in is kind of conservative,
so you wouldn’t f find
any illustration majors. Also, art,
at least in my family, was not
even on the top 5 “good” career
choices. But I still was on a design
related path. At University
I learned to design spaces and
objects, always focused on functionality.I
got more involved in
technical drawing, design
concepts, color theory, some
design history, 3D modeling, 3D
printing and machining, among
a long list of math (which I actually
loved, but also suffered...
but loved…), and engineering
assignments. It was in 2012,
my second year at college, that
I felt the urge to keep doing
illustration, for fun, but also
with discipline and dedication.
So I started this project where
I would post illustration work
anonymously, and so I came up
with the name Hidenn (Hidden).
Oh, was I bad at english back
then. I also sucked very much
at illustration. But I wanted to
improve, and delight someone
the way I was delighted when I
was younger. So I drew once,
and I fucked up. I drew twice
and I fucked up. And basically
thats the way I am still walking,
I keep drawing and learning
and fucking things up.

y name is Molly Martin
& specialize in embroidering
your pet! I am a student
finishing up school in Houston,
Texas, and picked up embroidery
as a hobby to relieve
stress/anxiety. As I started creating
pieces and sharing them,
I became overwhelmed with the
positive feedback and decided
to start selling my work. Each
portrait takes anywhere from 15
to 30 hours to stitch- it is a labor
of love! Embroidery is so important
to me and I get to make
other people happy with some
thread, a hoop, and a needle.
1. I have no formal art trainingjust
a love for art and lots and
lots of reading/ youtube videos!
2. I have two cats and they are
my children. I love them so so
much.
3. I hate getting dressed up
and wearing clothes that aren’t
comfortable. My daily routine
includes sitting on my couch,
embroidering, in my pajamas or
a big comfy t-shirt.
4. My favorite sound in the world
is the sound of thread passing
through tight fabric. Oh my god.
If you haven’t heard it yet, you
need to.
5. I don’t really like to listen to
music while I work. I prefer to listen
to something conversational,
like a podcast!
6. As I am writing this, I am
graduating from college
(University of Houston) tomorrow
with a degree in Communications
and I have NO
IDEA what I am going to
do with my degree.
7. I hate spending
money. That is why
embroidery and I make
such a good pair- it is
an insanely cheap
hobby.
8. I love living in Houston.
Texas gets a bad reputation
sometimes but Houston is such
a big, diverse, beautiful city. It
just needs to be less hot sometimes!
9. My favorite hobby, besides
embroidery, is taking baths.
There is nothing that a nice, hot
bath cannot fix. Somedays I take
2 baths because I am that ridiculous.
10. Being a small business owner,
I cannot stress how much I
appreciate buying from small
businesses as well as how much
I love things that are handmade.
I love thinking about the time,
thought, effort, and craftsmanship
put into something that is
handmade. It is the most special
kind of gift!

A painter? A poet? A photographer?
An editor? A dancer?
A designer? An illustrator?
Forms and applications ask for a
specific identity. It is a difficult
question to answer when a
person can be so much.
A person does not have to be tied
down to only one creative outlet.
Life isn’t an elective. A person
can be a writer, a painter, a
poet, and a photographer. There
is an energy that wants to present
itself. This energy presents
itself through creative outlets.
It is okay that it be several. We
are not two-dimensional, we are
complex and our work should be
complex as well.
An animator that paints? Does
that devalue the work in animation?
Is having multi-creative talents
undervalued? I am told to
be more specific as to what I can
bring to the table. But what if it is
okay that I am a photographer, a
screenwriter, an editor, a designer,
and writer. I am foremost a
storyteller. I use art to imbue my
energy into something concrete.
Carefully hone your skills and
determine how much time you
would like to give to each of your
new and old creative endeavors.
How to prioritize time in order to
give all the creative outlets
attention can be difficult. Keeping
a journal and simply listing anything
creative that you worked
on that day can be an easy way
to look back and point out what
you need to give more or less
attention to. Each day attempt
to work on something creatively
new. Take your curiosity and run
with it. Curious about sculpture
after years of drawing?
Do it. There are infinite blogs,
websites, and videos online that
can aid in learning. Try anything
you are remotely interested in.
Read, watch, and learn. Take
note of what it is you are most
passionate about. Continue to
work with what you are passionate
about. You may find the new
mediums you learn may present
themselves in your projects.
Connect with creatives. Follow
fellow writers, painters, poets,
photographers etc. online.
Viewing similar or completely
different work can be inspiring.
It is a smart use of social media
that allows you to connect with
creatives and artists from all
around the world.
Social media allows you a look
into different lives, and different
creative approaches. Use the
free tools available to your advantage.
Look into sites that can help display
your art and work. Seek a
home for your projects. Whether
it be a personal journal you can
look back on, an account on a
social site, a gallery, or prints.
Take pictures of all your endeavors
and label them with dates
and what your end goal is. Being
open to criticism is important
to improving your work and
growing as a creative. Surrounding
yourself with your work, and
sharing with your friends and
family can be conducive to cre
ating an art-driven environment
for yourself. Seeing your work
receive feedback and love from
family and friends may push you
to continue to create.
Learning new mediums and embracing
new creative paths and
projects will make you a better
artist, a better human being, and
will facilitate growth. I can’t say
this enough, surround yourself
with your work and be proud of
it!

She earned her Bachelor of
Fine Arts Degree from Denison
University, and her Post

from The Pennsylvania Academy
of the Fine Arts. Whitney’s
work has been exhibited
nationally, and her pieces are in
private collections throughout the
United States and abroad. She
has taught drawing and painting
courses at the high school and
college level, and is represented
by Jessie Edward’s Studio
(Block Island), Beacon Art
Shortwave Gallery (Stone Harbor),
and Beach House Gallery
(Dunedin, FL).

oth of my parents were
artists, so as a kid I was
surrounded by all types of art
from all periods in history, on the
walls, in art books, etc., and was
also exposed to museums and
galleries on a regular basis. I
graduated from Parson’s School
of Design in New York City,
where I majored in illustration,
but I decided to pursue a career
in special effects and character
makeup for the film industry. I’ve
always loved movies, especially
horror, fantasy and science
fiction. This made for a rich foundation
resulting from not only the
influences of my artistic home
surroundings but also my own
imagination sparked by the pulp
fantasies of pop culture.
So of course for me it made
sense to move to Los Angeles
and get into the movie industry.
After almost twenty years working
in films I became interested
in exploring my own point of
view and began producing personal
art. I now live and work in
New Jersey.
I would classify my work as
mixed-media. I use the camera
and the computer as artistic
tools like any other. I typically
begin a piece by drawing
and working out ideas on paper.
This is followed by sculpting and
constructing a series of miniature,
doll-like characters or maquettes,
as well as a variety of
intricate handmade objects that I
then photograph. My photographs
are then processed in
the computer along with my
scanned drawings.
Each composition is made up of
a number of these visual
fragments, all edited using Adobe
Photoshop software. I print
out sections of my imagery, and
using collage techniques, build
what will become the final
assemblage. The printed pieces
are cut, torn, altered, rearranged,
etc. The work is constructed with
these layers of printed imagery,
as well as paint mediums and
other media on a panel. Although
I usually have a definite composition
worked out, the piece
evolves and changes as aesthetic
passages are revealed.

methods also have an influence
on the theatrical flavor of the
pieces, in that I’m creating and
working with various fabricated
objects and handmade characters.
As I’m working, it can feel
as though I’m staging a tiny theater
piece or perhaps curating
a mysterious museum exhibit
combined with a long ago forgotten
sideshow of curiosities.

created much like the
working maquettes described
above but taken to a more
complete state. I think that my
work is partially influenced by
the past, from things like early
cinema, art history, curiosity
cabinets and early photography,
for example. I’m interested in
exploring my own subconscious,
a dream world that exists
somewhere between a childlike
sense of fantasy and adult
anxieties. I often draw inspiration
from more primitive technologies.

her work. She’d put on country
radio and paint. They loved how
messy she was in that space especially
in comparison to their
highly regimented household.
Beyond the confines of motherhood,
she was a more carefree
person. She is the reason they
began to create and had the confidence
to pursue art as a career.
India Treat is a fine art photographer
and the creative director of
Lunchroom Anxiety. Her personal
work tells a new story, one told
from the woman’s point of view.
This is reflected in her role as a
creative director. India strives to
create a strong, feminine
energy central to the story of
Lunchroom Anxiety. Their brand
pays homage to Texan women
like Ann Richards, Selena, and
Lady Bird Johnson.
Bronte Treat is the lead designer
of Lunchroom Anxiety. A deep
love for her landscape is reflected
in the pieces she creates and
finds. Their vintage items feature
homegrown brands like Wrangler
while their more eclectic
pieces are reminiscent of Dolly
Parton circa 1977.
Their embroidered pieces are
one-of-a-kind and handmade by
Bronte. Lunchroom Anxiety is for
the modern cowgirl, the rough
rider in all of us.

y name is Robb Lim,
owner/designer for
MODEST, a Philadelphia based
clothing company.
Our merchandise is a medium
for me to share my life experiences
with the public as well as
impact my community directly.
Chosen 300, an amazing
non-profit that focuses on
feeding Philadelphia’s less
fortunate, is embedded in our
DNA. $5 from all apparel purchases
and 10%from all accessories
goes to Chosen 300.
I can only speak on my experience
in business school, but I
often struggled with what was
being taught in lectures.
Maximizing profit, minimizing
costs, and that “old-school”
mindset (all about the bottom
line) did not resonate with me.
When I started MODEST I
wanted to do it my way and stay
true to my own personal values.

very beginning of MODEST.
When I started MODEST I wanted
to simply do more, so we
donated the profits from our
first run of tees to produce

for West Philly’s Fun

supplies for the less
fortunate for the
upcoming school year.

engulfed my entire life. I wouldn’t

coaches and teammates I had
relationships with growing up.

he wanted to find a way to make

is to form a collective group of

living and giving back into their
life. We have a blog and social
media to help bring this community
together.
The company name is a result of
DNA testing and the discovery of
ancestral language.

about adventure. About passion.
And it’s about fun and comfortable

media platforms up and running.
Part of everything we make from
this project will go to wildlife conservation
and the environment.
We dream of a future that cares
about the environment and
wildlife.

spent 21 years in the military.

And then the apparel idea came
second.We will use our business

The spark of creative energies
that amalgamated at the Monaliza
studio on Friday night was
like no other. The posh designer
Guvanch, whose apparel
can be classified as retro-chic,
had models as visual representations
of his line. Loud colors
with sequined bold motifs,
feathered sleeves and sultry
silks, the models were diverse in
background, age and physique.
The space was an ideal venue
for photographers, who came
in vast numbers, to capture the
perfect runway and ad campaign
aesthetic. One room led to an
even more elaborately decorative
room which led to an even
more overwhelmingly eye-catchingly
stimulating space. It was
like being in a utopian maze of
beautiful people, decadent artistic
designs, and endless paparazzi.
There was even a DJ
attracting a dedicated dance circle,
a musician drumming out to
the vibes of the event, and a fire
dancer impressing the audience
with her incredulous talents and
abilities.
As the night went on, the crowd
continued to grow, attracting a
vibrant flow of cool and hip millennials.
The event was truly
a photographer’s paradise, a
dream come true.
There was so much to capture.
In the first room there was an
large table-sized arrow situated
on the desk that models took
turns sitting on while photographer’s
flashed their cameras.

fluorescent light with a white
sheet that models posed in front
of. There was a dazzling display
of decor; gold-framed mirrors
hanging on the walls, silver
candlesticks, a blurry TV
screen. Everywhere you looked
there was something worth
gazing at. In another room was
a red velvet swing that a model
was dangling from.

Navigating the party space was
like getting lost in a fantasy land,
an overpowering flow of creativity
enveloped the entirety of the
event. It was great networking
opportunity for models looking
to get discovered, and photographers
in search of their next star
subject. A wonderful and memorable
night, as an attendee you
were guaranteed to leave with
your head spinning with an elevated
standard of what a good
party entails and newfound appreciation
for Williamsburg.
Monaliza Studio is the hang out
spot not to miss…if you are a
fashionable trendsetter that is,
or just a cool person looking for
an exclusive night of adventure.

s a professional artist
who specializes in
photography, graphic design,
and printmaking. Originally from
Paramus, New Jersey Samantha
is a recent studio arts graduate
who studied at the University
of South Carolina- Beaufort. She
was recently a featured artist for
the 2017 ‘Emerging Artists Competition’
and received 2nd place
at USCB’s research and scholarship
day for her classes visual
branding for the Film and Digital
Media Symposium. Samantha’s
work has been displayed at the
Student Senior Exhibition,
as well as the 19th Annual juried
student exhibition where she
received the Digital Award for
her digital collage as well as
honorable mention for her block
print.
Samantha is currently spending
a second semester as a
graphic design intern at PickleJuice
Productions located in
Beaufort. This past summer
Samantha interned with Valley
Printing & Graphic Design as
well as Dove Photography.

I am a London College of
Fashion alumna and have
worked at Alexander McQueen,
Gucci, Liberty London, Alice
Temperley to name a few.
I was recently seen on
Project Runway Season 13,
I impressed judges with my
unique point of view and won
2 challenges. I have shown my
collections at Mercedes-Benz
New York Fashion Week and
the brand has been featured in
Marie Claire US, Ftv.com, Elle
Magazine, Cosmopolitan Magazine
to name a few. I design
limited edition resort wear
dresses. Beautiful prints are
inspired from around the world.
I am writing to you as we have
communicated in the past about
collaboration through Instagram
messages. I am based in Boston
and continuously collaborate
with local fashion and lifestyle
talent/bloggers to create content.
Recently I collaborated with
local photographer (Wendy Tam
Photography), MUA and highly
followed fashion bloggers (Tara
West and Fourtyfabulousduo)
to create fashion story on what
Fashion means to them. They
both have a great following on
social media so if published they
would be sharing the story and
magazine publication on their
own social media as well.

The Raffi by Tilted Barn is a
great example of a dark beer for
warm weather, as it’s smooth
coffee flavor and lighter body
keep it from being too heavy. A

Nalani & Sarina proudly announce the release of The Circle their first full-length album on Telepathy
Records, distributed worldwide by Kobalt Music Group/AWAL.
In the review of the album’s first single, Young & Inexperienced, Bilboard.com raved “Like other great
songwriters, Nalani and Sarina are channeling the emotions of their era.” The Circle resulted from two
years worth of songwriting; “We kept writing song after song” says Nalani, “experimenting with different
styles and methods of recording which best fit the individual tracks.” Sarina adds, “The vision for
the album evolved so naturally. The songs almost answered one another.”
Though universal in nature, the album focuses on issues facing young adults, such as job frustrations,
finding one’s purpose in the world, and the endless ups and downs of inter-personal relationships.
Legendary rock critic and SiriusXM host Dave Marsh has already called The Circle a “splendid melding
of ‘classic’ and contemporary styles, and (I) have not heard anything like it in a good long while, or
at least anything like it at this quality level.”

Its so hard to admit this but I take
pleasure in drama. I hate being in
shitty relationship situations but i
just love to have guys that my
boyfriend told me not to communicate
wi th fawn over me. Especially when im
in a bad place wi th him. I have never
physically cheated on him or anyone
else for that matter, I also don't have
any feelings for these people. I just
have this lusty urge to string men
along and manipulate them. Seduction
is my forte. Ive learned that creating
a sense of lust in a Man is temporary
and w ill NOT give me the pow er that
I yearn for over him...making him love
me is where it gets fun..because now I
know I have the pow er.. Helen of Troy.
I only do this to take my rage out
from fighting wi th my Boyfriend
and when im bored. I hope I can
stop. Because i don't care about
these dudes and I know this is
fucked up....
I focus so much on
all the people and
things around me
mostly just because
I'm afraid to look
at myself.
