Tinley Park Kitchen & Bath serves as one-stop shop
Their name may be Tinley
Park Kitchen & Bath, but they
do a lot more than just that. The
picture in their ad is part of a
large remodel. This remodel
involved removing walls and
installing new exposed support
beams to give the area an open
plan perfect for everyday life
and entertaining.
The walls between the kitchen
and the family’s existing mudroom/laundry
room were removed
to expand the size of the
kitchen. On one side, where the
washer and dryer used to be,
they now have a coffee/wine
center with an under-counter refrigerator.
On the other wall in
this room is a large custom boot
bench for convenient storage.
The cabinetry that was chosen
is from Bertch Kitchen and is
made here in the Midwest.
The darker wood base cabinets
and white upper cabinets give
the room an updated transitional
look. The upper cabinets were
taken to the ceiling with custom
crown moulding. White quartz
countertops and a white farm
sink pull the look together. With
a wave of the hand, the Moen
motion activated faucet turns
on and off. The island serves as
a place to gather as well as offering
additional storage. Back
splash tile and a custom piece
above the stove provide additional
interest.
The existing powder room
was converted into a new walkin
pantry with a barn door. The
laundry room was made more
convenient by moving it to the
second floor into an unused
space near the master bedroom.
Making a vision become a
reality is what the employees at
Tinley Park Kitchen & Bath do,
and they have been doing it successfully
for 14 years.
Their showroom is one of the
largest in the south suburbs with
a wide assortment of bath displays,
two Bain therapy tubs,
full-size kitchen displays and
a fully functioning kitchen. All
of our cabinetry is made in the
USA with something for every
budget.
They are a preferred provider
of quartz countertops and also
offer wood flooring, tile, faucets,
sinks and hardware to complete
your project.
If you are a do-it-yourselfer,
they can design your new space
and offer guidance to help make
your project flow smoothly.
For eight years in a row, their
customers have voted for them
as the “Best Kitchen and Bath
Remodeling Business in the
Southland.” That speaks volumes.
With everything you need
under one roof, Tinley Park
Kitchen & Bath is truly a one
stop shop. They can coordinate
every aspect of a job to make it
a smooth transition from old to
new. Starting the process is as
easy as bringing in some pictures
and basic measurements of the
area you want to change.
Drop in to see how easy it will
be to turn the kitchen and bath of
your dreams into a reality.
Save money on yard updates and enjoy
the dream patio with AreA Landscape
Children back to school? Yes. Weather
transitioning into fall? Yes. Done with
outdoor living for the year? No!
There is still time for yard updates and
patio installations. In fact, in-stock brick
pavers and retaining wall blocks are on
sale for AreA Landscape Supply’s twoday
Labor Day sale Friday and Saturday,
Aug. 31 and Sept. 1!
You can find the south suburbs’ largest
selection of in-stock Unilock products at
AreA Landscape Supply. AreA has been
recognized as an authorized dealer by
Unilock since 1996, and has received the
highest dealer honor since 2000. Stop
by to see the selection of Unilock’s high
quality paver products. The Outdoor Idea
Center at AreA Landscape Supply includes
full-size patio displays with seat
walls, fire pits, fireplaces and more! Visit
inside to see gas logs, fire glass color selections,
mesh screens and other accessories.
Homeowners attempting outdoor projects
can call or stop into AreA with their
questions. The experienced sales staff
can help estimate material needed, recommend
the best product and even give
a checklist of steps to follow for installation.
The staff can even recommend a
suitable landscaper or contractor to complete
your project successfully. Ask about
available financing options.
Other fall yard updates to consider
1. Seed. Now is the time to address bare
spots around your lawn. Temperatures
are cooling to a more adequate level for
grass-growing and tend to stay pretty
consistent in the fall. Plus, throughout
the winter months, grass roots will continue
to develop. It could take three to
five weeks for desired results. At AreA
Landscape Supply, you can choose
from four seed combination varieties
for the perfect match.
2. Fertilize. Aim for your fertilizer application
during the second half of
September. This will deposit a dose of
“vitamins” into the soil. Once there,
the grass will soak up the nutrients at a
slow, but steady pace during the winter.
The result? Your lawn will be greener,
faster in spring 2019! AreA’s fertilizer
choices include: all purpose, seed starter,
four-step program, etc.
3. Mulch. Premium Hardwood mulch has
benefits all year round, but during the
winter months, it acts as an insulator.
Keep your plants warm during cold and
snowy months with a blanket of mulch.
A three-inch thickness is ideal. Mulches
are available either bagged, or in bulk
by the yard. Ask AreA Landscape Supply
about estimated product coverage.
AreA has been proudly serving the
community since 1996, supplying quality
hardscape materials, such as Unilock
brick 9 pavers, premium hardwood
mulch, retaining wall block, decorative
stone, sod and more.
Orders can be placed quickly and easily
over the phone at (708) 479-8400.
Request same-day delivery, or place your
order on will-call for a future delivery.
You can also stop in, see the selection, and
take your in-stock choice home immediately.
AreA Landscape Supply is the onestop-shop
for all your hardscape needs.
Making sure heating systems are ready for cold weather
StatePoint Media
Savvy homeowners know
that with cool weather comes a
bit of preparation. A quick audit
of your heating equipment can
mean less wasted energy, a more
comfortable home and lower energy
bills.
Nearly half of all heating and
cooling equipment in U.S. homes
never performs to its advertised
capacity and efficiency due to
incorrect installation, according
to U.S. government estimates.
And if you have an older system
that was built before current efficiency
standards, you could be
spending more than needed on
heating your home.
If it’s time to replace your
system, be sure to have it properly
installed by an HVACR
professional, certified by North
American Technician Excellence
(NATE), the nation’s largest
nonprofit certification body
for HVACR technicians. NATEcertified
technicians are skilled
professionals who have proven
their knowledge in the HVACR
industry by passing specialized
certification tests.
“The NATE-certified techs
who perform maintenance and
repairs do a consistently great
job,” said Rob Kirkpatrick, a
longstanding customer of Thermal
Services, a Nebraska-based
contractor. “We never have any
concerns if the job is done right.”
Beyond having an efficient
heating system properly installed,
you can prepare for the
season in the following ways:
• Clean heating filters. Check
them every couple of weeks
and change them at least twice
in the season, or as directed by
the manufacturer.
• Check and maintain insulation.
Improperly insulated walls,
floors, attics, basements and
crawlspaces drain away heat
and can also lead to moisture
imbalance. Adding weather
stripping and caulk around
windows and doors can also
improve a home’s insulation.
• Turn down the thermostat or install
a programmable thermostat
to regulate temperature.
• Clean the furnace area. Don’t
keep chemicals or cleaning
products near a heater, and
don’t store anything next to it
that could impede ventilation.
• Free all vents and returns of
obstructions. Don’t lay carpet
over vents, place furniture
over or in front of them, or obstruct
the flow of air.
• Dry air feels cooler than moist
air, so install a humidifier. A
simple humidifier may make
the home feel five degrees
warmer than a home with dry
air.
• Look into geothermal heating
systems which use earth’s
natural heat and are among the
most efficient and energy-conserving
heating and cooling
technologies currently available.
• For optimal performance
of your HVAC system, get
an annual service contract
which includes both heating
and cooling maintenance.
But take care to avoid poor
service and scams. To find a
qualified local contractor who
employs certified HVACR
professionals, look for the
NATE logo or go to www.na
tex.org.
By incorporating a few energy-friendly
habits into your
routine and by making sure your
heating system is operating optimally
this season, you can keep
utility bills low while maintaining
a cozy, comfortable home.

Superior Cabinet Supply’s customers speak out
Superior Cabinet Supply is
fast approaching its 34th year of
providing American-made cabinetry
and countertops to homeowners,
contractors and home
builders.
Superior Cabinet’s roots started
in Park Forest in May of 1985,
as Superior Cabinet & Window.
In 2006, Frank Klauck, owner
and president, opened his second
location, Superior Cabinet Supply,
at 19800 S. Harlem in Frankfort
– just north of Lincoln-Way
North High School in Harlem
Crossings Shopping Center.
Klauck was a carpentry contractor
for 10 years, before starting
the cabinet and window business
in Park Forest. By 1990, he
began phasing out home building
and construction projects
and focused more on his role as
a window contractor and kitchen
and bath dealer who served
homebuilders, contractors and
homeowners directly.
Klauck’s wife, Sandy, has
worked with him for 19 years at
both showrooms. She said wordof-mouth
referrals comprise the
bulk of their business. Approximately
85 percent of their new
customers come from referrals
by homeowners and contractors.
“When we receive personalized,
handwritten thank you
cards and online reviews, it is
truly rewarding to us,” she said.
The following email and Yelp
review exemplify the customer
satisfaction Superior Cabinet
strives for:
“Hi Frank —
I cannot thank you and Superior
Cabinet Supply enough! The
design of my kitchen is just
perfect for me. The layout of the
cabinets has a great flow, and everything
I need is at arm’s reach.
I love my new kitchen! Frank, I
appreciate your design work and
incorporating everything that
I wanted in my kitchen remodel.
My walk-in pantry is awesome,
and using cabinet doors
as an invisible entrance makes
it blend in beautifully with the
utility cabinets on both sides.
This is my ‘hidden gem’ for storage.
The cabinets with the pullouts
are great. No more getting
down on the floor to find things.
Thanks again, Frank and Superior
Cabinet, for making this experience
an enjoyable one, and
the finished product a beautiful
kitchen.
Pat and Ken — Tinley Park”
“When my husband and I decided
to remodel our kitchen, we
visited at least 10 cabinet companies.
Amazingly, we found Frank
and his wife, Sandy, close to our
home! Frank was a carpenter
contractor, and his knowledge
and skill was a decisive factor.
Frank also came to our home,
measured and gave us his opinion
prior to our commitment to
purchase. We were very pleased
with his pricing. I had quotes for
the exact cabinet manufacturer
from companies located in Bradley
and Tinley Park, and Frank’s
pricing was about 15 percent
less! Throughout the process,
Frank and Sandy were friendly,
knowledgeable and professional.
I also appreciated the lack of a
hard sale. This is a family-owned
company that takes pride in delivering
what is promised. It has
been a pleasure working with
Superior Cabinet Supply.
Toni S. — Frankfort”
Kole Digital creates award-winning home theaters
Entertainment is a great
escape from everyday life,
and great movies can dramatically
improve your
mood. A good home entertainment
system is a wise
investment that contributes
to the quality of your
life for you and your family.
And no one knows that
better than Kole Digital,
the number one place in
Chicago for award-winning
home theaters.
With an eye for visual
entertainment and a passion
for creativity, owner
Rob Kole and his team
turn spaces into spectacular
movie theaters
and multi-purpose media
rooms. With a staff of
seasoned CAD designers
and engineers, they create
stunning rooms that
look and sound unbelievable.
Rob has a four-year
degree in sound engineering,
design and acoustics,
plus extensive experience
in sound and lighting for
live shows. Cut to present
day and he is now scaling
his knowledge and skills
from large-scale entertainment
venues to a select
room in your home. If the
premise sounds interesting,
you should visit their
design center on Lincoln
Highway in Frankfort to
see more.
The showroom is deceiving
from the outside.
You have no idea how big
this place is. When you
enter, you are greeted by
a friendly staff who takes
you on a tour of their
13,000-square-foot facility.
You experience two fully
automated smart homes,
a lighting studio, several
gourmet kitchens and audio
demonstration rooms,
and five spectacular home
theaters. Each theater has
a different theme, from the
futuristic Galaxy, to the
art deco Paradise, to the
gentlemen’s club-inspired
Majestic. The grand finale
is a two-story Chicago
Theater replica, complete
with a balcony. Each is exquisitely
crafted with highquality
materials such as
stone columns, acoustic
treatment, custom glass
and metalwork. There are
lighting options everywhere,
and each ceiling is
unique. One has a beautiful
fiber optic star field. It’s
like Disneyland for adults.
The second floor has a
furniture showroom with
more than 50 theater chairs
to choose from, plus several
sectionals and credenzas.
A tour of the offices
reveals where the CAD designers
work on plans for
several basements including
their 410th theater!
You can also see where
the finishes are selected,
which includes: carpet,
fabric, tile, paint, custom
cabinetry and more.
It didn’t stop there. Kole
Digital started 18 years ago
out of Kole’s own home
in Homer Glen, and they
were the first in the area to
specialize in smart homes,
which feature lighting control,
climate, motorized
window treatments and
more. Today, they offer every
conceivable home control
product. From an iPad,
you can view cameras,
unlock a door, arm a security
system, select a Pandora
station, and control
the volume in each room
of the house. They even
have an outdoor kitchen
display, complete with an
all-weather TV, planter
and rock speakers.
The space is always
changing. In the last few
months, a new interactive
space was added so you
can audition the various
control systems — Crestron,
Vantage, Control 4
and RTI. And a sneak behind
the scenes at their
new teaching labs shows
where they train what must
be the most talented installers
and programmers
in their field.
Meet with Kole and you
will see that his excitement
is infectious. He has
a passion for what he does,
and has his hands in every
design (they have 54 current
projects and five basements
under construction).
He will also tell you that
no job is too small.
“Some people walk
in, purchase a Sony, LG
or Samsung TV, select a
credenza, speakers and
receiver all controlled by
a universal remote, and
schedule installation one
day next week,” Kole said.
Others contact them
when they are getting
ready to build their home.
“This is the best time to
bring in your house plansbefore
you are too far
along,” he said.
Kole Digital is a definite
must-see for new homeowners,
or those looking
to renovate or finish their
basement. For an exceptionally
high standard in
custom audio video, as
their tagline says: “You
Making sure the roof is weather ready
Is your roof ready for
fall and winter weather?
You may think it is, but
have you looked at your
roof recently? Your roof is
your home’s first defense
against wind, rain and
snow. A good, solid roof
— free of defects — will
protect a home from the
ravages of fall and winter
weather for many years.
Your roof must be able
to withstand the extreme
challenges that weather
brings. Cold, windy days,
heavy gusty downpours
and snow and ice storms all
play havoc with your roof.
For peace of mind and protection
of your home, your
roof must be prepared to
handle whatever weather
nature brings.
Don’t let the outside
conditions impact the
inside of your home. A
small roof leak today
can lead to a major water
problem tomorrow. Missing
or damaged shingles
provide pathways for rain
and melting snow to make
their way into your home.
Your roof must be water
tight. If you have any concerns
about your roof, gutters
or siding, you should
contact a professional to
have them addressed immediately
before extensive
damage can happen to
your home.
If you suspect you may
have a roof, siding or gutter
problem, contact Prusak
Roofing for a free estimate.
We will complete
a full inspection of your
roof, gutters, fascia and
soffit systems, explain
any problems you may
have and provide recommendations
on how to fix
them. Minor roof issues
can generally be repaired
at a reasonable cost and
can extend the life of most
roofs. If your problem is
more complex, you will be
able to address it before it
causes additional damage
to your home.
You can trust Prusak
Roofing with your roof. We
are the contractor of choice
for thousands of new and
repeat customers throughout
Chicago and the suburbs.
We are family owned
and operated since 1963. A
company owner will come
to your home, assess the
situation and discuss options
with you. We are extremely
proud of our A+
rating with the Better Business
Bureau. You can also
find us on Facebook, check
If you think you have
storm damage from the
heavy wind and rains this
past spring or damage is
discovered during the roof
inspection, Prusak Roofing
will work with your insurance
company to assist
you in the claims process.
If damage is detected due
to storms in the area, you
may qualify for a new roof.
Prusak Roofing is your
best choice for roofing,
siding and gutter projects.
We are committed to customer
satisfaction, quality
workmanship and honest
business practices. Our
goal is to provide our customers
with a positive experience
from beginning to
end. Look at our reviews
Transform the home into an entertaining haven this summer
StatePoint Media
In warm weather, everything
is better done outdoors
— from eating meals
to entertaining guests.
In fact, 88 percent of
homeowners taking on
landscaping projects upgrade
outdoor living elements,
such as furniture
and heating features, to
make spending time outside
more comfortable, according
to the Houzz 2018
Landscaping Survey.
To embrace the trend,
consider the following.
Add ‘living room’ touches
Create a flawless outdoor
retreat with comfortable
lounge chairs and
all-weather sectionals that
look like they belong inside.
Go all out with color
and bold furnishings —
shades of magenta and teal
go perfectly with nature’s
green elements. However,
if you prefer neutrals, up
the design factor with
bright planters and accent
pieces, or hang vibrant
tiled artwork that can withstand
the elements.
If you have an indoor
patio or pergola, hanging
decorative curtains provide
style, shade and privacy.
Finalize the space
with cushioned floor seats
and activities, like board
games and books, for the
ultimate entertaining destination.
Include a beverage station
Have refreshments nearby
with fun serving ware
and a bar cart stocked with
cocktail fixings — ice,
lemons, olives, water and
soda — along with fruit
juices and colorful sugar
to rim glasses, so even the
children can get in on the
merriment. Add pretty patterned
glassware, umbrella
stir sticks and a cocktail
shaker to get the party
started.
Refresh common areas
Guests will access your
home’s entryway and powder
room. Spruce up these
spaces with a fresh coat of
paint or by simply repainting
the trim a crisp white.
This can completely transform
your home, making
it look brighter and feel
larger. With the right tools,
you can pull off this impactful
project with ease.
One of the most important
tools you’ll need
is a premium painter’s
tape, like FrogTape brand
painter’s tape, to protect
walls and floors. Treated
with PaintBlock Technology,
FrogTape can be used
on a variety of surfaces to
deliver the sharpest paint
lines for professionallooking
results, allowing
you to get the job done
faster and eliminating the
need for touchups, which
means more time spent
outside.
To bring the elements of
summer into your home,
include accents like colorful
throw rugs, fresh flowers
and greenery.
Go green
Create a peaceful sanctuary
outdoors with fresh
flowers and greenery. If
you don’t have a green
thumb, display low-maintenance
verbena, lavender
and decorative grasses in
attractive pots.
If you have minimal
space, opt for a wallmounted
garden to add
life and texture without
creating a footprint. One
easy way to do this is to
repurpose an old wooden
ladder and secure it to a
wall. Succulents and herbs
are easy to tend to and kids
will love having a summer
project to upkeep.
Plus, nothing will impress
guests more than clipping
fresh herbs during your
next cookout.
and décor tips, visit
Most people know they
need to clean out their
dryer lint tray between
each cycle, but what lurks
behind the wall is just as
important for safety and
avoiding fire traps, as well
as fully efficient dryer performance.
Joe Enzenberger,
owner of Dryer Vent
Wizard, opened his New
Lenox-based business in
2009.
Lint is the villain —
lint that has been allowed
to build up and linger too
long in the dryer exhaust
vent.
It is estimated by the
U.S. Consumer Product
Safety Commission and
the U.S. Fire Administration
that 15,500 fires associated
with clothes dryers
occur annually. These fires
account for an average of
20 deaths, 370 injuries and
more than $88 million in
property damage. “Failure
to clean the dryer vent”
was the leading factor cited
in U.S. Fire Administration
reports.
“It is something very
few people know about or
think about,” said Enzenberger,
whose company
specializes in dryer vent
cleaning, repair, alteration
and installation. “It is
the leading cause of dryer
fires.”
Lint accumulation also
can cause dryers to stop
working or to work inefficiently.
A dryer vent
clogged with lint can add
as much as $18 to $24 per
month to energy costs.
“Improper venting
causes problems, as well,”
he said. “The dryer exhaust
duct and connections
should be made of rigid
metal or semi-rigid metal
and secured with metal
heat-resistant tape rather
than duct tape. I often find
plastic or foil accordiontype
material, which can
easily trap lint and is more
susceptible to kinks and
crushing.”
Warning signs include
• Clothes are taking more
than one cycle to dry, especially
jeans and towels.
• No lint is visible on lint
screen.
• Dryer repeatedly stops
during a cycle.
• Clothes have moldy
smell after dry cycle.
• Clothes are very hot after
a dry cycle.
• The top of your dryer is
hot to the touch while
running.
• There’s excess lint left on
your clothing.
“This has been a consumer
education process,
but it’s hard to get the
word out,” Enzenberger
said. “Most don’t call until
they have a serious problem
with their dryer.”
He suggests people
treat clothes dryers as a
household item in need of
regular maintenance. Consumers
can protect dryer
performance and promote
safety by cleaning the lint
screen between each use,
ensuring the connection
between the dryer and
wall is made of compliant
material and remains
unkinked, and having the
dryer exhaust duct cleaned
regularly. Dryer manufacturers
recommend inspection
and cleaning at least
annually.
Now is the perfect time
to have an inspection and
cleaning of clothes dryers
and dryer vent systems.
Another important tip:
never let your clothes dryer
run when you are out of
the house or asleep.
Lindholm Roofing provides a variety of options
Are you getting fake news...
From a contractor or service provider?
No matter what side of the
political aisle you’re on, there
seems to be bias and an agenda
from people presenting us the
news. It seems like the truth is
harder to come by these days
than it’s ever been before.
It’s the same in the field of
home improvement. Between
the storm chasers “flooding”
a neighborhood after a heavy
downpour promising a homeowner
a free roof; or the ad offering
a “free” window when
you purchase five or more with
only an additional $475 to install
it; to the composite siding with
a factory finished paint coating
that the big box store says will
last 25 years; what and whom do
you believe?
A person can make a good decision
when he or she has the appropriate
and correct information
regarding the situation you’re
dealing with. It’s also very important
to have all the necessary
information, so you know what
all your options are before one
makes a choice or decides on
the direction they want to go. It’s
getting that information that has
become more difficult, and not
because there’s too little of it.
Quite the contrary, considering
the internet, there’s too much of
it! Separating the “wheat from
the chaff” is an ancient expression
that’s never been more appropriate
than today. One asks,
“what’s true in my instance?”
Let me explain a couple of
tactics that today’s contractors,
wittingly or unwittingly, utilize
to make decisions more difficult
for you and better for them.
Your chimney looks rough
and you’re not sure what to do
about it. You may even have a
leak that seems to be coming
from it. A mason or his representative
come out and tells you it
just needs tuck pointing. Another
comes out and sends you an estimate
for a complete rebuild of
your double flue, two story and
10 foot top to gutter face brick
chimney. All of a sudden there
goes that vacation you’ve been
planning, or you might start
wondering how you’re going
to balance this with that dental
work you’ve committed to. One
option seems so inexpensive it’s
hard to believe that it could solve
the problem, while the other reminds
you of the sticker shock
you felt when you bought your
last SUV. Well, guess what? In
this instance, there’s a third option
that will handle the problem.
The chimney mortar joints can
be ground out and tuck pointed,
along with one of the capstones
replaced and the others reset.
The bricks can be washed afterwards
and the chimney looks
brand new.
Some contractors don’t want
to offer the harder and more labor
intensive solution. Why?
Because it’s too much work or
they’re not skilled enough. They
wouldn’t dare tell you that. The
other option might be the contractor’s
bias that there’s only
one way to do it “right” and
that’s for them to do it over. Or
worse, forget about what your
needs are, his/her child needs
braces and you just so happen to
come along at the most appropriate
time! Imagine that.
Lets take another scenario.
Your roof doesn’t look that bad
to you, but more than one roofer
has said that you need a new
roof even though it’s only
18 years old — as old as
your home. The worst part
is, they tell you the only
proper way to do it is to
tear the old roofing off and
replace it with all new ice
shield, vapor barrier and
shingles. This, along with
all new vents, soil pipe
covers and metal flashings,
make it quite a large
project, both in its scope of
work and expense.
What they often don’t
tell you is that in many
instances a second layer
of shingles may be a viable
option. It depends on
the pitch or slope of your
roof, the quality of the new
shingles being used, the
condition of the existing
roof and whether you have
leaks or not. Even if there
is a leak, that area may be
able to have additional and
preventive work done to
it prior to the re-shingle.
In all of Chicagoland a
homeowner is allowed,
by code, a second layer of
shingles unless the situation
warrants otherwise.
This can include a moisture
problem or separating plywood
sheathing to mention
a few of many. A good an
competent roofer will also
inspect the attic and take
everything into consideration
before offering you
this choice. The nice part is
that a layover costs about a
third to 40 percent less than
a complete tear-off.
The categories are many.
Sometimes all you need are
a couple of gutter corners
and/or a few downspouts
replaced instead of a complete
roof drainage system.
Or perhaps the glass insert
on your fogged insulated
glass window can be replaced
and not the whole
window.
It’s all about the choices!
And finding the ethical
and competent exterior
home improvement contractor
who will offer you,
if possible, the different
options available to solve
your problem or to properly
complete your project is
the most important choice.
Granite and Marble
Depot offers more than
100 species of marble and
more than 200 species of
natural granite, marble,
quartz, limestone, travertine,
and slate in a wide variety
of colors to suit most
needs. Their professional
and dedicated staff will assist
you in the design and
selection process to ensure
the most functional and
pleasing setup. They provide
complete and professional
installation in their
service area. Their experienced
crew will ensure
your utmost satisfaction.
Easy and quick, GMD
makes it an easy three-step
process.
Step one involves choosing
the perfect stone design.
Granite and Marble
Depot offers a free consultation
at a customer’s
home, office or its showroom
to discuss needs
and suggest ideas. GMD
highly recommends that
customers bring a sketch
of the project to its showroom.
It is a good idea to
bring a cabinet sample
and paint color, as well. A
GMD consultant can help
customers choose the right
stone, as there are hundreds
of colors to choose
from.
Step two is placing the
order. To place an order
with GMD, it requires customers
to have the following
steps complete in their
home: Cabinets need to be
installed, all of the appliances
in the kitchen need
to be on location, and the
sink needs to be on location
so GMD may take it
as a template for the sink
cutout. Once those requirements
are satisfied, GMD
can come out to measure/
template the kitchen. The
installers will work with
customers to make sure all
the specifications and technical
details are provided.
The final step is the installation.
The homeowner
must be present for installation.
GMD will install
the countertop and backsplash.
Lastly, it will drill the
faucet holes, attach the
sink and mount the dishwasher.
The ownership difference
GMD is committed to
enhancing the home-living
lifestyle. They aim at
“Making you proud.” If
you wish, they can keep
you in their records to
inform you of the latest
news about natural stones.
They will always seek
your feedback so they can
make the right adjustments
to enhance their customer
satisfaction goal.
The right stone
Having the best quality,
best selection of colors
and fabricating options,
their team of stone enthusiasts
guarantees your satisfaction
and maximizes
your experience. Products
include: granite, marble,
quartz, slate, travertine and
limestone.
The right price
Their all-inclusive value
price gets you on the way
from day one with no surprises.
Your purchase experience
will be as simple
as it is enjoyable.
The delivery difference
When they say on time,
they mean it. Every customer
receives a professional
orientation on the
features of their stone and
the simple way to care
for it. You and your family
will feel very proud of
your investment.
One of a kind in Homer — glass floor or glass ceiling?
If you have ever ventured inside
Sheri Law Art Glass, you
may have looked up and seen the
glass ceiling as you look through
to the upper level. Or, if you have
a spirit of adventure, you might
have stepped out on the glass
floor looking down to the conference
room. Some say, “wow, it
takes your breath away.” The answer
is that it is both a floor and
ceiling! If you’ve driven past for
years and wondered what they
did there, they are glass artists!
This team of artists is changing
what’s between the floor and
ceiling. It’s the windows, doors
and walls that the artists find inspiring
and provocative. Art is
an essential component of any
home, and starting to add art
can be perplexing. The designers
at this studio work together
with you, discovering your décor
space and the impact the art will
have on the room. Step-by-step
it makes the selection process
easier, and with a little help from
a glass designer, the end result is
exactly what you envisioned.
Lighting, wall space and room
décor are all factors that will affect
how, where and when a piece
of art will be viewed. The most
interesting detail is what they call
“retrofit.” An example would be
your bathroom window. They
can create a stunning art glass
that will go on top of your existing
windows and magically, you
have a beautiful focal point with
the amount of privacy needed,
professionally installed. Another
plus is that if you ever moved,
you could take it with you!
Along with beveled, stained
and carved glass, fused glass and
antique mirror have taken the
forefront. From cabinet doors,
sidelights and wall art, there are
designs to coordinate with your
decorating style for any room
of your home, even the kitchen
backsplash.
If you want to discuss a project,
they recommend you make
an appointment. In the studio,
you can experience all the techniques
firsthand, review budgets,
schedules and all the details.
While the majority of Sheri
Law’s work is residential, they
hold a place in many commercial
spaces. Did you ever wonder
who made the donor wall at
Silver Cross Hospital? Homer
Township Public Library fused
glass in the Heroes Quiet Reading
Room or the new Donor
Tree? McCord Gallery Donor
Wall? Fox’s Restaurant in Orland
Park and Mokena? Gaelic
Park? It’s the creative work of
the artists at Sheri Law.
Schaaf Window Co. continues to be industry leader
Since its founding in 1959,
Schaaf Window Co. has prided
itself on providing the highest
quality and best valued products
to its customers.
This philosophy has helped
grow Schaaf Window Co. into
an industry leader, distributing
a wide range of quality windows
and related products throughout
Chicagoland.
As many satisfied customers
have come to know, Schaaf Window
offers not only products and
services on which customers can
depend, but also a long-lasting
partnership with every one of
its customers, both builders and
How to know when
it’s time to replace
an entry door
StatePoint Media
homeowners alike.
A family owned business,
Schaaf Window began with a focus
on customer satisfaction. Today,
it maintains that unwavering
commitment to superior service,
offering a wide range of products
and services to builders, contractors
and homeowners throughout
Chicagoland.
Schaaf Window is a one-stop
distributor of high quality windows,
exterior doors, interior
doors, skylights, millwork, mirrors,
glass and shower doors.
They back up their products with
years of technical experience
and a courteous customer service
Is it time to replace your home’s entry door? If your
foyer is drafty, the answer is yes. Particularly with winter
around the corner. Not only will a new door boost exterior
appeal, it will prepare interiors for a temperature dip,
making your home more comfortable, while saving you
money on utility bills.
So, what should you be looking for in a door?
• A tailored fit. Nothing feels quite as good as well-tailored
clothing created specifically to your size, shape
and style preference. Off-the-rack clothing just doesn’t
fit everyone’s measurements. Similarly, off-the-rack
doors fall short of expectations in the same way. The
materials and workmanship that go into custom-made
doors are of exceptional quality and durability, and
far exceed what is available as ready-made. Unlike
consumer-grade doors, which are cut down to fit your
need, professional-class doors are built to your exact
measurements for a more secure and energy efficient
door.
• Energy efficiency. Look for Energy Star certified doors,
which have been independently tested and certified to
meet strict energy-efficiency standards set by the Environmental
Protection Agency. While a new door does
come with a price tag, it’s important to keep in mind
that the right choice can help you lower your utility
bills and ultimately present a return on your investment.
• Quality materials. While wood doors offer a beautiful
staff. In an effort to better serve
their customers and provide a
wider variety of options, they’ve
added two new window product
lines this year — Weather Shield
Windows & Doors and MI Windows
— to go along to their
existing lines of Jeld-Wen Windows
& Doors. Customers can
now see these products, along
with the rest of their offerings,
in Schaaf’s newly redesigned
showroom.
Schaaf offers installation of
windows, doors and shower
doors using its own employees,
who are trained to the manufacturer’s
specifications. They will
classic look, they require regular maintenance and lack
the endurance, security and energy efficiency of fiberglass
or steel. Consider opting for quality materials
that will last a long time but not force you to sacrifice
the look you want. For example, the low-maintenance
fiberglass options offered by door system manufacturer
ProVia include the Signet and Heritage collections
and provide the classic look of real woodgrain,
but are engineered to be highly energy efficient. The
Legacy steel collection provides durability and energy
efficiency, whether you opt for a woodgrain texture or
smooth steel look, and is a good choice if security is
your top priority.
• The right style. When selecting a style and color, take
into consideration the current architectural elements of
your home. Use online tools that allow you to upload
an image of your home’s exterior and play with various
combinations to determine the right fit. Keep in
mind that an entry door can either be a place to maintain
the overall mood of your home’s exterior or a way
to add a pop of color.
For more tips and resources, visit provia.com.
This fall, set yourself up for a comfortable winter. Upgrade
your entry door for substantial energy savings and
a more secure home.
How to select the best ceiling
fans for home interiors
StatePoint Media
If you have a “less is
ceiling fans, experts say
that by shopping around,
you can find a highly functional
fixture that can even
“Today’s ceiling fans
Upgrade the kitchen
to cook like a
professional chef
Your source for one of America’s most trusted
brands of windows and patio doors.
StatePoint Media
Of course, cooking like
a chef at home requires
talent and practice. But
there’s no doubt about it
— having the right culinary
tools, appliances and
prep space is essential, too.
To upgrade your kitchen
so you can cook like a
chef, consider the following:
Prep like a pro
Save time and energy
and get a cleaner cut by
maintaining your knives.
Properly clean, dry and
store knives directly after
use and regularly sharpen
them. Whether that’s on a
magnetic strip on the wall
or an in-drawer organizer,
the best options will allow
you to see all your knives
at once so you can reach
for the correct one. Precision
slicing? You may also
wish to invest in a mandoline.
Bake a lot? Consider
ditching the measuring
cups by using a digital
scale instead. You’ll get
faster, more accurate results.
And the bonus of less
to clean-up.
Cook like a pro
When it comes to ensuring
that there are no limits
to what you can do in the
kitchen, it’s all about having
top-notch appliances.
Check out the Pro Series
Collection of free-standing
ranges from ILVE. Known
for their handcrafted Italian
appliances, the new
series offers chef-quality
features such as a removable
griddle, high BTU
brass burners and a builtin
warm drawer to keep
cooked food at an ideal
temperature for serving.
Available in a 36-inch
single or unique double
oven configuration as well
as 40-inch and 48-inch
sizes with double ovens,
the electric ovens feature
multi-function cooking
options and included rotisserie
accessory.
The Pro Series is
equipped with features
that professional chefs
dream of at a price point
that the home culinarian
