Kole Digital creates award-winning home theaters
Entertainment is a great
escape from everyday life,
and great movies can dramatically
improve your
mood. A good home entertainment
system is a wise
investment that contributes
to the quality of your
life for you and your family.
And no one knows that
better than Kole Digital,
the number one place in
Chicago for award-winning
home theaters.
With an eye for visual
entertainment and a passion
for creativity, owner
Rob Kole and his team
turn spaces into spectacular
movie theaters
and multi-purpose media
rooms. With a staff of
seasoned CAD designers
and engineers, they create
stunning rooms that
look and sound unbelievable.
Rob has a four-year
degree in sound engineering,
design and acoustics,
plus extensive experience
in sound and lighting for
live shows. Cut to present
day and he is now scaling
his knowledge and skills
from large-scale entertainment
venues to a select
room in your home. If the
premise sounds interesting,
you should visit their
design center on Lincoln
Highway in Frankfort to
see more.
The showroom is deceiving
from the outside.
You have no idea how big
this place is. When you
enter, you are greeted by
a friendly staff who takes
you on a tour of their
13,000-square-foot facility.
You experience two fully
automated smart homes,
a lighting studio, several
gourmet kitchens and audio
demonstration rooms,
and five spectacular home
theaters. Each theater has
a different theme, from the
futuristic Galaxy, to the
art deco Paradise, to the
gentlemen’s club-inspired
Majestic. The grand finale
is a two-story Chicago
Theater replica, complete
with a balcony. Each is exquisitely
crafted with highquality
materials such as
stone columns, acoustic
treatment, custom glass
and metalwork. There are
lighting options everywhere,
and each ceiling is
unique. One has a beautiful
fiber optic star field. It’s
like Disneyland for adults.
The second floor has a
furniture showroom with
more than 50 theater chairs
to choose from, plus several
sectionals and credenzas.
A tour of the offices
reveals where the CAD designers
work on plans for
several basements including
their 410th theater!
You can also see where
the finishes are selected,
which includes: carpet,
fabric, tile, paint, custom
cabinetry and more.
It didn’t stop there. Kole
Digital started 18 years ago
out of Kole’s own home
in Homer Glen, and they
were the first in the area to
specialize in smart homes,
which feature lighting control,
climate, motorized
window treatments and
more. Today, they offer every
conceivable home control
product. From an iPad,
you can view cameras,
unlock a door, arm a security
system, select a Pandora
station, and control
the volume in each room
of the house. They even
have an outdoor kitchen
display, complete with an
all-weather TV, planter
and rock speakers.
The space is always
changing. In the last few
months, a new interactive
space was added so you
can audition the various
control systems — Crestron,
Vantage, Control 4
and RTI. And a sneak behind
the scenes at their
new teaching labs shows
where they train what must
be the most talented installers
and programmers
in their field.
Meet with Kole and you
will see that his excitement
is infectious. He has
a passion for what he does,
and has his hands in every
design (they have 54 current
projects and five basements
under construction).
He will also tell you that
no job is too small.
“Some people walk
in, purchase a Sony, LG
or Samsung TV, select a
credenza, speakers and
receiver all controlled by
a universal remote, and
schedule installation one
day next week,” Kole said.
Others contact them
when they are getting
ready to build their home.
“This is the best time to
bring in your house plansbefore
you are too far
along,” he said.
Kole Digital is a definite
must-see for new homeowners,
or those looking
to renovate or finish their
basement. For an exceptionally
high standard in
custom audio video, as
their tagline says: “You
Gotta See This Place!”
reupholstering as a great
option to make the most
of the valuable pieces the
homeowners already have
in their possession. Most
often, some professional
assistance in preserving
them can add many more
years of use.
Many people enjoy making
their homes reflect their
personal décor tastes, but
there are also those homeowners
who absolutely
dread the process out of
fear of getting it all wrong.
Regardless of the category,
clients fit in, most have a
difficult time navigating
through the immense pool
of choices when it comes to
colors, fabrics, and styles.
At Interiors by Diane De
Cero, their goal is to meet
and exceed their clients’ expectations
in regard to professional
home décor. They
dissect every room while
keeping in mind the overall
look and feel of the home
to make every space inviting
and comfortable. In the
process, they often inevitably
help homeowners to
fall in love with their property
all over again. After
all, home décor reflects the
life of the family that lives
in the home and it should
tell a story of who you are.
Design tips for world travellers
StatePoint Media
Travelers are often
struck by the unique style
of a certain locale, such
as the bright colors of Havana.
If your family plans
to travel soon, you will
likely return longing to
recreate memories of your
time away.
From highlighting trinkets
and souvenirs to
hanging foreign tapestries,
there are many ways to
integrate favorite locales
into your space.
Start with souvenirs
Travelers want to remember
their journeys with
souvenirs. But how do you
incorporate your passion
for adventure into your
space without making your
home look like a jumble of
snow globes?
“Mementos should be
highlighted without detracting
from your overall
décor,” said Danielle De-
Boe Harper, interior designer
and senior creative
content manager at Moen,
a leading manufacturer of
kitchen and bath fixtures.
Harper recommends
searching for items that can
be transported home in a
suitcase, like candles with a
scent reminiscent of the trip
or collectibles that double
as coffee table centerpieces.
Vases and small pieces
of art are great choices, too.
Picture perfect
Travelers take thousands
of snapshots which can
help determine a color palette
in a space.
For example, bring the
coast inland by adding
taupe woven rugs, painting
the walls pale blue
and infusing golden accents
through a brushed
gold faucet and coordinating
accessories, like those
from Moen’s Voss bathroom
suite.
“Integrating past adventures
into your space
doesn’t require an entire
home redesign,” Harper
said.
